Rangers slay killer elephant From correspondents in Nairobi January 10, 2006 WILDLIFE authorities in Kenya have shot dead a notorious elephant believed to have killed at least six people and terrorised villagers in the country's central Rift Valley, officials said today. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said the seven-tonne bull jumbo was killed on Sunday in the Tinderet forest, 290km northwest of Nairobi, after repeated complaints about its homicidal behaviour. KWS spokesman Gichuki Kabukuru confirmed to AFP that the elephant had been put down but could not provide specific details of the incident or the animal's history. The state-run Kenya News Agency (KNA) said the angry bull, nicknamed "James," had long been identified as a menace by villagers around the forest where he had lived for 30 years. KWS regional warden Francis Irungu told the agency that "James" had killed at least six people, including a nine-year-old child. Since the latest attack in December, residents had demanded action. Why on earth would anyone refer to a rogue killer bull elephant as "James"?

Maybe like Jesse James and his guerilla tactics. "There are creatures here that cannot even be found in books, and I have killed them all......"
