In the process of planning a buffalo hunt- does anyone have any experience in the area adjacent to and just south of the Selous Game Reserve? I'd appreciate any comments. jmbn Old and in the way

I hunted Kilwa, which is just SE of the Selous. Where specifically are you looking? Formerly "Nganga"

The area is 1,500 sq. miles adjacent to the SW corner of the Selous, called Nalika and Mbaranganda WMA. I see Kilwa on the map; it's well to the E of the area in question. jmbn Old and in the way

I hunted Lukwika several years ago- on the Moz border. I think it was 2012. Not contiguous with the Selous at all. I did a report on it at the time. I think this is pretty south of where you are looking. The buff were relatively easy to hunt, good quality, and a lot of fun but the poaching of elephant was really ugly (elephant was why I was there back when it was on the migration corridor between the Niassa and the Selous, and was a really good spot for good ivory.) I have not heard anything about it since. I thought it was a little small for good cat hunting- we had a pride there of lion, but all underage, and the leopard were not baitable, thought to be due to poisoning carcasses by local farmers at the time. All in all, great PG, really good buffalo, but the poaching was a problem then; also one of the few areas to shoot Harvey's Red duiker... but somehow I didn't have that on my license. Saw lots of them.

Are you hunting with Infinito Safaris in their area by chance? Jerry, I also have hunting in Tanzania but I think you'll be in very good hands with Charl and the Infinito crew. Mark MARK H. Bwana, I believe Charl has the areas himself. The 2 areas are community wildlife areas (WCA’s) as opposed to government blocks.

The Buff look good but fairly average in that report and I would ask if they are 100% on this species and maybe some contemporary references? ROYAL KAFUE LTD Email - kafueroyal@gmail.com Tel/Whatsapp (00260) 975315144 Instagram - kafueroyal

These are some of the best and wildest big game blocks in Tanzania. Plenty of buffalo and some very good trophy quality. You are in good hands in a great area. Enjoy!

The Mbarangandu area is quite special. I PH'd there for many years, having last been there 15 years ago. Leopard and Buffalo are plentiful, and your hunt will be enjoyable. The area itself can be hilly and physically challenging, so be prepared for that and just accept that Tsetse fly love the area as much as us hunters do. I've worked with Charl (prior to him taking over Mbarangandu), and can say he's a top notch operator. Feel free to PM me should you so feel.

Yes sir. Charl is a great operator and has a very good reputation on these boards. I have hunted with Charl but not in Tanzania. I am planning to. Tim Herald has hunted this area and has taken a couple of good bulls there. He is in Uganda hunting now but contact him by pm when he gets back... Tons of buff there - great quality- and you can’t go wrong with Charl. As Neil said, it is hilly and infested with tsetse flies! Good Hunting, Tim Herald Worldwide Trophy Adventures tim@trophyadventures.com
