Bigbore 500:

Congratulations on booking with Buffalo Range. My hunting partner and I will be hunting with them in late July and early August in 2007 in the Cheridzi/Ruware area for buffalo and plains game.

Where will you be hunting? It might start to be getting warm in October depending on your location.

There are a number of posters here on AR who have hunted with them in the past. Might want to do a search of this forum for old threads.

Also, I believe their website www.buffalorangesafaris.com has some weather and temperature estimates on it.

Good luck and keep us posted.

bigbore 500,

I hunted Zim in August and temp was beautiful...then it spiked to almost 90 degrees... To feel good and keep hydrated tale powered gatorade to mix with bottled water..At the end of the day you will still have miles in you...
Talk to widowmaker 416 hs has hunted with these guys for about 5 safaris or more...

They are a very good outfit. I would be prepared for hot weather, Tsetse flies, Mopane bees, but you'll still have a lot of fun! Take a light head net with you.

Your booking of 14 days is right on! That will give you both enough time to pick and choose some nice trophies.

Buffalo Range Safaris have a good name for them selves.
September,October and November are quite hot months but the game will be close to water generally.
Which area are you hunting?

where barry & rob hunt buff in october you can expect lots of flies, nites will be warm (70's) and days hot (90's) country will be pretty well bare of any leaves etc. should be quite a good time for buff, they'll be coming to water and most waterholes will be dry, which will congregate them into areas.

Excellent choice! You will have a great hunt with Barry and Rob! I've done 6 safaris with them and planning number 7 in 2007!

As other posters have said, it will be a bit on the warm side.

Have fun!!

thanks guys for all your input, as of the area we are going to hunt, i'm not sure, by buddy who also post here "doublethefun" spoke with barry twice, barry is mailing our info. this was a spur of a moment decision, now comes the "" what we have, what we need to get "" for this trip, all i know is we start the hunt on the 1st, and its going to the best 14 days ever. we are figuring on leaving early something like sep.28th or so, just so we have a day or so to relax from that long plane ride. we are bring 2 doubles one 470NE, and one 500NE, and a back up 375 bolt for plains game. barry did mention that for kudu he wants to move to a different location than the buff. hell thats fine with me, i just can't wait to experiance the hunt, the land, and the people.

how much ammo do you think well need , i plan on using the 500 whenever i can, zebra, kudu, buff, ect.. if its a far shot with no way of getting under 100y mark then the 375 comes into play, but if i can help it they will all be close and personal. mgun

Bigbore 500,,
I think you will hunt the Buff at either Chewore or Matetsi (great spots)and then plains game at Matetsi or the Low Veldt.
As for your ammo quantity, this would depend on amount of game you plan to shoot.
I would personly bring fifteen solids and five softs for ether double and twenty softs and twenty solids for the 375H&H.
This is a great set of rifles for your task.
Will you be hunting 2 hunters x 1 PH or 2 hunters x 2 PH's?
Having some spare days before and after the hunt is great to get over jetlag, incase luggage arrives late and some time to see sights ect.
PS, If you have spare ammo, the PH's would probably appreciate it if you don't need it at the end of the hunt.
Ozhunter.

Kazuma forest is suppose to be a great hunting area.
One of my PHs had a close call with a Buff at Kazuma last season.
This block has Matetsi to the south and East, Botswana to the west and Kazuma Pan NP to the north.
This area has great Buff, Elephant and plains game.
Barry shoots a Searcy 470NE if I am correct.
Good hunting,
Ozhunter.
