I picked this book up at SCI from Rowland Ward. I started reading the book a couple of days ago and am about half way through the book. It is a very interesting book and he is a decent writer. Travels north as a young man, apprentices in Kenya, poaches for while, escaped from Arab smugglers, etc. Dan died in 2005. My question is for folks that might have known Dan. Was he for real?

Marty, yes, his youngest son was Bill. Had two older boys Trevor and Kim. His wife was named Zelda and he had a daughter named Coralie. May be others, but those are all that have been referenced in the book so far.

Interesting life for sure. Tobacco farmer, professional hunter, soldier.

I hunted with Billy Landrey in the Save in 2005. His brothers have a sport fishing camp in Mozambique. Bill was hunting for Jumbo Moore. I spoke with Jumbo at SCI, and Bill is working as a diesel mechanic now. I recall that Buzz was pretty well acquainted with him, he could likely tell you more.

Is Rowland Ward the only place to purchase the book? I just looked for it on Google and it is not listed.

I think it is just available at Rowland Ward. A lot of their stuff ships from the US or send them an email.

Finished the book today. Some parts of the book have a bit of a stream of consciousness feel to them and it jumps around a little chronologically but the stories are interesting. Certainly someone that had a diverse set of experiences in his life.

Neither of them post on here, but you could find out quite a bit about Dan Landry if you contact either Peter Johnstone or Roy Vincent. Landry had the concession in Matetsi that was neighbor to Peter's Matetsi 3 concession. Roy actually had this concession for 5 years sometime after Dan Landry lost it. If you have their email, or 'friend' either Peter or Rene Vincent on Facebook, I'm sure you could find some details about him.

Apparently he hunted not just Matesti (Denda Safaris) but hunted Chewore, Sengwa and Makuti too. I bet he had a story or two to tell.

I knew Dan and he was a real character who did a lot of stuff in his life. As someone else mentions his sons Kim and Trevor are (last I heard) in the Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique. Dan, Kim and Trevor "pioneered' in there from Matetsi when it was pretty much a full on war zone.

Just finished the book. A very good read, indeed. I had forgotten I ordered it from Safari Press, they just sent it last week.
