When do you plan to take your new lady hunting? Will she make the DRSS meeting? I only got to "pet" with her in Dallas and would like to see her in action... and, have you got her shooting to check the regulation, etc?

She was completely refinished in England we think by Holland but is all original as verified by letter from Holland. She came in a proper English case with all the extras.

Coming through loud and clear, and I mean loud!
Beautiful lass she is, but I'll bet she would shack up with anybody coming along with enough bucks. Wink

Nothing beats twin chambers to accept your cartridge. Wink

What does a .550/.465 look like? .465 bullet on a 550 NE(???) necked down? If I ever knew about that one, I forgot about it. .500/.465 makes more sense to me. But I am bolt action trash with one Merkel. Big Grin

Here's my "lady" that I'm bringing to the dance:

She's a Westley Richards boxlock in .450/.400 3 1/4". A little more petite than your girlfriend, but, she'll do.

Can't wait!

It's a joy! Particularly when the first two shots (at fifty yards), with the first load you try (and you get the 2150 fps you're seeking) are like this:

I only had four .411/400 grain Woodleigh solids. The next two both hit a 1/3 sized, cardboard "mbogo" where I aimed. I sent the expended brass to Hornady and they optically scanned the brass to make dies. They should be here this week. I've got 40 brass to load up and continue the fun.

You better treat her nice. If'n I ever hear of her being abused, I'll make a domestic violence complaint! shame

For all you others who have the urge to discipline your double rifle, I have a shelter setup at my house and Judge G will sign the orders of protection.

To all, thanks for all your comments. She is a dream come true after reading since I was a little guy about Africa and Double Rifles. I am in the process of tracing her history beginning with the original purchaser Lady Brocklehurst of Macclesfield, Cheshire England.

Alf,
Seeing that is a real treat. Do you know what type of scopemount configuration that is? It looks like it was set up for a side mount, but also has holes on the bolt side, and some type of front mount on a barrel band. What is all that?

Those are all beautiful rifles. But speaking as one absolutely green with envy, I am curious if you would ever trust these to baggage handlers? I can hardly stand to give up my M70 to the airlines and sure would be a nervous wreck if I had anything as nice as these. Do any of you who have collectable doubles dare to travel with them?

How is your pretty wife and that beautiful new coat doing? Smiler

I bought my double to hunt elephant and that's what we will do, hopefully take a big tusker in Botswana. She will be heavily insured and I will take all the steps to see that my rifles get transfered. I have never been one to stick a gun in a safe and just pull it out occasionaly to look at it.

I took my 450 No2 and my 9,3 Chapuis to Zim last June. They will go back with me on my next trip. I also took them on an Idaho bear hunt. I have hunted with mt 450/400 3 1/4" in Montana in several driving rain storms, and a spring snow storm , where I killed a black bear. I took it to Alaska twice, once to shoot 2 caribou and once to hunt brown bear [no shots fired]. The 400 will go to Idaho this June for black bear. My 9,3 has also been to Montana, Canada, and Idaho.
I bought these doubles to hunt with.

Thanks Wimpie

Whereas I certainly don't want anything to happen to a rifle that would be very difficult to replace, to not take her hunting would be like letting a field champion pointer stay in the kennel and waste away.
