My wife understands that I have a passion for Africa, my double four seventy and hunting Ellie that is only exceeded by my love for her, she treated me to “Mahohboh” by Ron Thompson. I must confess that this was the first book of his that I read, I thought it was good. Then I received Ron’s first book of his planned series, called “God Created Man the Hunter” (An early anniversary present) WHAT A READ!! Unbelievably as good as the writings of Jim Corbett and other famous “old timers”. Ron is only printing a limited run of 1,000 copies, if you enjoy Africa as I do, don’t delay sign up for the series, you will not be disappointed. To think that Ron’s story took place in my life time and I nearly (but failed to) immigrate to Rhodesia, if only I knew then what I knew now. Must stop, time to pour a Scotch and return to the Leopard in the hills, night lights and gin traps.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Just finished the book, excellent from start to finish, you will not be disapointed. It can hold it's own with the best African classic.
