1BigDeerWhat Species Have You Taken the Most?
LittleJoes discussion on the first African animal taken got me thinking about what species hunters have taken the most. I'm not trying to pry into your personal life or finances but it is very interesting to me. Personally, I like to shoot warthogs or any pig for that matter, but the African species I've taken the most is Gemsbok with 4 taken but I've only been on safari 4 times. So what is it for you and how many? Again, I'd expect impala but we might be surprised!

surefire7Gee, I thought it would be Impala for bait, but I shot Buffalo for bait for my Lion. I shot some Impala for my Leopard, but not many.
Strangely, I guess it's Buffalo at 5. Two for Lion bait and three for trophies/meat for camp.
I assume this was African hunting. If it's all hunting, then definitely, it would be pronghorn antelope. I take 3 or 4 every year ( for the past 20 years or more ) and my wife takes 2 or 3 a year.
We eat pronghorn like regular people eat hamburger. And we love it by the way! Cooked backstraps on the grill last night, coated in olive oil and generously sprinkled with garlic salt and pepper. Eaten medium rare to rare, there is no finer meat IMHO, except maybe Zebra backstraps!
Good hunting and eating to all of you.

Wow, you may have a record here! I thought I was doing well by shooting one baboon on my first trip!
I think my best is 3 impala and 3 warthog. I have a lot of work to do in July I guess

MARK H. YOUNGI have not shot tons of any one species as the variety offered in Africa is always what has attracted me. Looking around in the house though I see 8 bushbuck and I'd happily shoot another particularly if it was a variety I did not have.

On my last (third) safari, I almost shot a nice Impala Ram, but I didn't want to contaminate my brand new Buffalo Rifle with taking a plains game as the first animal.

A couple dozen Impala for Leopard bait. Quite a few warthogs for the same reason. Unfortunately most of the bait was consumed by locals before the cats got a chance.

larryshoresIt surely must be impala. I have no idea of the number. It has to be well over 100. I can remember individual trips where I shot over 20 for rations or bait.
Of the animals I know the count, 49 buff.

I really don't know what the figure is Saeed but 80 is conservative.
My best ever shot in Africa was a bobo running at 480 yards.....with my 22-06 and 70gr TSX's

Hope to make it to Larry's Buffalo count one day, that is my favorite hunt, bar none.
Although, it is fun beyond description to knock a baboon over... and much more affordable!!

Bud MeadowsSeven gemsbok in four safaris with Sebra Hunting Safaris in Namibia. Three were trophy animals and four were "ration" gemsbok to feed the PH's workers or for his church group. A close second is baboons with five taken. That number could be much higher, but shooting a big male baboon early in a day's hunt can booger the hunt for a targeted animal like an Eland or a Waterbuck. The baboons tended to be "drive by" shootings usually when driving to another part of the ranch or at day's end or just before a lunch break.
