I'm interested in any updates or recent experiences with taking your cash out of Zim, particularly in Bulawayo. First, is anyone being questioned or using the green declaration form on entry? Any questions about the amount of cash you're taking with Upon your exit from the country? Any adverse actions regarding the cash on exit from Zim?

I was in Zim this past July. Upon landing in Bulawayo I was asked about cash and to declare it and fill in the form. I kept a copy. I asked why and was told I could bring no more than $1000 out of Zim at my departure. Leaving three weeks later, out of Harare, I handed in the form when asked and told the official I have less than $1000. This was true as I spent it all. Again, I asked why and was told the same thing: that if I have more than 1K anything over the 1K limit would be confiscated. When I asked those I was hunting with, all had an opinion. Most said if I brought in the money from outside I could leave with that amount. Again, their opinion but I would hate to show up and tell the officer in charge I had , say, $2500, and my friends said I could keep it. If he disagreed I would have been the loser. Yes, I could argue and miss my flight, etc., but it is not worth it. There are a lot of stories like Cal said. My take on it is that it is a police state, so if they say declare it, declare it. It's risky I know but you have to. We hunted there this past October and I declared all the cash we had. I also took photos with my phone of the document. There is just no excuses if you do....... My two cents.... In September, I declared all I had, something over $9,000. When I left, they asked me how much I had. My response was less than I came with. They laughed and that was the end of it.

I entered by land from Kasane, Botswana, never asked about money and left from VF/Livingstone, again never ask about money. That said, what are you going to do if the officer says you can't leave with more then a $1000. Answer, nothing but give it to him if you want to leave.
