One time when I was there I stayed at a farm house while dove hunting. One of the family's little daughters was named Rageeta, but I have no idea how to spell her name.

It was pronounced: Ra gee ta

Ragita?

Any idea?

Thanks. (I'm hoping for a grand daughter Smiler)

Bill,
I hope you get one... little girls are special and wrap their dads and granddads around their little fingers pretty damn quick!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Will,
Congradulations for whatever you have. Grandkids are so much fun. I had 3 daughters and one son, and now I have 3 grandsons and one granddaughter plus one on the way. The one on the way is my son's and he has a girl now so I'm hoping for a boy, but I'll be thrilled with either. I have to wait till January.

My grandson (now 22) is a wonderful young man and I am extremely proud of him, but my granddaughter is my greatest reward for living.

She's 29 now, and has become my travel buddy. She accompanied me on my last two trips to Africa, as well as to South America.

Her minor in college was Spanish, and after spending a semester in Spain on a university program she is totally fluent in that language. In Argentina and Brazil, she constantly apologized to my friends for a "grandfather who spoke only Spanglish."

Thank heaven for little girls.

Bill,
Conratulations on the expected grandchild. I have five grandsons and two granddaughters who have made my life definitely worth living.

Alf got to where I was heading before I read his post.

Magriet

Magrieta

Grieta, or

Grietjie where the tjie is pronounced as "key" in American. How on earth to have you pronounce the G is almost like when you such phlem, so Magriet would almost be (Ma) (Phlem suck) (eet)

The G is a guttral roll.

As Mr. Kriel says, the g is a guttural sound articulated at the back of the throat, almost like the Mexican Spanish Jose, HO-say. The Dutch pronunciation is softer without the guttural G [H.] Cool
