Do Tanzania trophy fees differ in different areas? I see the fees for buffalo in the Selous are higher than other areas. Is this due to the outfitter or the goverment???THANKS

I think it varies not due to published government policy, but to pay for all the grease on all the palms it has to cross. Outfits in tight directly with high officials have to grease fewer palms. Look at the total cost of the Safari vs the total package and quality of the experience. Don_G ...from Texas, by way of Mason, Ohio and Aurora, Colorado!

All operators pay the same trophy fees to the government. Operators will sometimes add a little bit to their trophy fees for profit. Some charge higher daily rates and lower trophy fees, or they will just charge the actual government rate for trophy fees. Some safari companies may charge lower daily rates and add 25% or more to the trophy fees. It is not uncommon, and it all comes out in the bottom line. Those who sublease quota will usually add a little more to the trophy fees that they charge their clients. This is where they make their profit. Nothing wrong with it, it is just more visible. Some concession owners may charge a company that is subleasing the concession more for the trophy fees and they have to charge the client at least that amount, and sometimes they will add a certain % to that amount. All operators pay the game department the exact same amount in trophy fees.
