Just had a client come back from Botswana who shot a very impressive 48" Buffalo and thought some of you would like to see what a great buffalo looks like as a 48" buffalo is hard to see let alone shoot one. Do not know if the pictures will turn out as i am not a pro at posting pictures, you can see them better on my web site in the trophy room though.

Am I reading the pictures correctly when I say that the hunter shot the buff with his bolt rifle (bottom picture), is posing in the middle one with the PH on the left (and PH is holding his own double rifle, or is it the clients double rifle?) and the top one is the client posing with the clients own double (or PHs?) that he didn't shoot the buff with? Since it looks like he shot it with the bolt action?

Whichever way, that's one fine buffalo!

I knew I should have said more about the pictures. Yes, the client Herman Ford shot the buff first with his bolt rifle, then did the finishing shots with his double. The PH also had his own double. Herman wanted to shoot the buff with double, but when the bull presented itself, it was around 80 yards and he did not want to take any chances on this big buff, so grabbed his bolt rifle from the tracker and made a great shot on it, then was able to use his double to finish off. Hope this answers your questions.

Definitely the Tanzania look. Fantastic buffalo for anywhere on the planet, but especially Botswana.

Great animal, a once-in-a-lifetime trophy!
Can someone pls define the difference between a typical Tanzania and Botswana bull? Except for the fees (high and higher)

Fantastic buff. A lot of the wide ones are soft, weird looking or non-symmetrical but that thing is about perfect.

The double top picture (with the clean skull) looks to be a Krieghoff, the one in the second picture with the PH's double, looks very like a B.Searcy, and I can't tell for sure on the bolt rifle, but it seems to be a Mauser!

Great Buffalo, no matter what it was shot with!

There is not much of a story to this hunt as everything went well and was a great hunt. Herman hunted hard the first 3 days of the hunt which was in the Delta region in the Khwai with Greg Butler Safaris who have always done a great job with my clients and producing great trophies. The first 3 days of the hunt Herman turned down several buffalo in the 42" and 43" range as it was still early in the hunt. The 4th day after about a 2 hour track after 3 bulls, Herman shot the 48" buffalo around 10 am. He hit the bull right through the should with a 458 win mag. The bull ran about 40 yards and fell over. he then finished the buffalo off with a 470 double.

We then had Terrell McComb from San Antonio join the hunt and he took a top 10 red lechwe, passed on a few 43" buffalo as he wanted one over 45",then the hunters went to the kalahari for some plains game hunting. They took the following animals from the Kalahari.

58" Kudu
54" Kudu
41" Gemsbuck x2
2 red hartebeest
2 Zebra
2 30" Wildebeest
1 40" eland

Both have booked again for elephant, buffalo and leopard for 2006 back in Botswana. So just a great hunt that they are very excited about.

I have another picture from another client that took another 48" buffalo in 2002 that looks exactly the same as this one did! There are great buffalo there and is one of my top picks for a buffalo hunt, not only for the quality of buffalo, but the delta is just beautiful.
