I've searched old posts & found a great deal of ballistic discussions & some limited useful info, most of which is dated.

If you have killed plains game with GS Custom HV bullets would you answer the following:

1. Are the bullets effective game killers (with well placed shots)? (Effective = game killed with 1 shot with limited running after being shot)

2. Do/did you use a lighter than normal bullet for the caliber rifle you used.?

3. Do you still use these bullets?

i wish i had used them on plains game but just shot buffalo and the were fantastic. It seems they are light for caliber but it had no effect that i saw. i had complete pass thru on buffalo with 375 and 404 jeff. i intend to use them alot more and it will be easier when they are set up in the usa which should be in the next 4 months.

Yes, used 150gr GS HV in my 300WM. Dropped like a sack of potatoes.
The bullets are made light for calibar, I prefer 180gr for the 300, don't need the extra velocity.
Still use them on the .458WM.

Yes and found them to be very effective.
150gr in 30-06 on wildebeast, Impala, Zebra .

I have culled management animals and found the round to be effective . It is light for calibre as I would normally use 180-200gr on a 30-06 but have not as yet found any shortfalls .

1. Yes. Overall good results with one "failure" (bullet didn't expand) that still killed its target fairly quickly.

2. 265gr HV 375 H&H, 165gr HV 300 Win Mag

3. Occassionally. I have not been on a plains game hunt since 2005. I do load them for 375 Ruger currently (but have not yet used them on game with that cartridge), but they are hard to come by in Canada, so I have stuck to Barnes and Swift for the most part.

GerryB So are they going to yet another distributor and if so who? I really like there stuff but from the get go it has been a pia to get on this side of the pond. I hope they get it right this time. Gerard and Gina seem like ok folks when I have talked to them over the last several years. However, distribution and shipping in a timely manner is what has been killing a good chunck of their business. If they get that resolved I predict they will pick up a good share of the market as they do make an excellent product. However if it is not cost effective in time or money for us and becomes another pain in the ass we will just find a different manufacturer here with a somewhat similar product. I hope it works out this time as I do really like their bulletts. If not I will have to wait until m friends pass through that area and have them pick them up and hold them for me.

Mike:

It is my understanding that Gina and her husband are in the US (Michigan in fact) and are setting up a production facility for manufacturing their products here. Not just distribution. Should be up and running very soon.

You might want to check out their site which provides a link to Gina in MI.

I, for one, am looking forward to this development.

That's great news for you guys south of the 49th. I think it will make it even worse for us up in Canada though. US export laws have really limited availability of custom bullets up here (expensive permits so small companies typically don't bother).
