When I was hunting ARDA in the Save Conservancy a few years ago, Bill, Jumbo Moore's camp manager, was going over protocal for the hunt, when he ended with "should you start feeling 'randy' while you are here, it's healthier to visit Mrs. Palmer and her five sisters instead of the (adjoining) squatters camp."

At first I didn't get what he was talking about, but then it hit me. "My God, man! That's the last thing you have to worry about from me," I said.

Later, I started thinking, he would never have brought that subject up if somebody had not actually done it! How could anybody be that stupid, especially knowing the current HIV rate in Zimbabwe? And let's face it, the "fare" at the squatters' camp is probably not as tempting as, say, a camp full of Victoria's Secret models on an on-location photo shoot.

Let's see now, Butchloc hunted there before me. Hmmmmmm, I wonder......

I know one thing for sure; if he does that then I'm taking $25 off his tip! (Unless, of course, he gets me a 42-inch buffalo and a 60-pound bull elephant, in which case I'm willing to let by-gones be by-gones.) Big Grin

Shared a Zim camp with a French man several years ago. First night he took it upon himself to “make arrangements” with one of the ladies in the kitchen. Once the PH discovered what was going on he quickly addressed the issue. Immediately after shooting his buffalo, Frenchie asked to be taken back to Vic Falls where he could “enjoy” the rest of the week without bothering anyone.

The PH said this is not the first time a French hunter fell in love with a Zambezi Blonde….

you'd have to be a horny son of a bitch to visit the "locals" in the hunt camps I have been in, just the smell would scare the buzzards off a gutpile. As far as health concerns, It would probably be healthier to eat the barrel of your rifle. Saeed, you need to find a barfing emoticon.

In 2008 on the road into town, we came upon an auto accident. Folks laying in various stages of injury in a field beside an overturned bakkie. My PH wouldnt let me near the injured stating it was too dangerous due to HIV. As an EMT it was tough not to help out but we had no gloves or anything in the truck and he was pretty clear it was an issue so we called the local ambulance which was probably almost as bad as the wreck itself.

One night I asked a PH about the weird things clients had asked for him to organize. The PH hadn't had many strange ones (he's young yet) but passed on a story about one request he didn't help organize.

The story, which I believe, goes something like this: 2 American ER doctors show up on safari and warn the young PH's present about the dangers of HIV. After a while in the bush, one of the doctors takes a shine to one of the female game scouts and wants to organize a night of commercial love. The PH's pass on being pimps, but the trackers or other game scouts (can't recall which) took on the role. A night or two later, by his own admission, the randy doc ignores his own previous advice. The game scout involved was dead within the year. She had slims.

Second hand story and I'm sure nothing was lost in the retelling. However, the game scout and trackers were with agreed the woman in question had died of AIDS.

More seriously, I'm astounded by the number of guys from overseas you see in African hotels getting involved with 'ladies of the night'.

If they're in the position of being successful enough to be able to travel half way round the world on business, you'd assume they're reasonably intelligent but apparently a fairly high percentage aren't intelligent enough not to get involved with that kind of thing! Roll Eyes

Ah well, I guess everyone has the right to go to hell in their own way.

Let's not be sexist. The ladys are subject to the same drive2s as us blokes. I suppose that bthose of you bwho se wives travel with you to Africa but spend tyhe time at a beach resort know that all those muscly you men don't make their living from just stacking deck chairs.

A young UN officer (female) thought sh'd found true love when on leave at a beach resort in, I think, Kenya, and got a real shocik when her new "boyfriend" presented her, on her departure, with a bill.

Like Brett, I was at the Sea Cliff, got in late, around 11:00, and the only restaurant open was the Fish Monger. Ordered fish and chips, gin and tonic and a coke. Watched the "Bollywood" movie on the tube and thanked the waitress and left. She followed me out and asked if I wanted some company. I told her I would love some but had been up 24 hours and was way too tired. Her friend came and followed me to my room and wanted to be my company as well. Told her the same thing. Left the next morning at 8a.m. for the airport. Avoided the Fish Monger on my return. They were really cute, though. My mom always told me to avoid women who wear flea collars on their legs.

Safari Lodges Use Local Women As Sex Slaves - Report
Isaiah Morewagae
12 November 2009

A report by international trade unions has revealed that some Batswana women are forced to provide sexual services to tourists at some safari lodges.

The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) last week published a report on core labour standards in the Southern Africa Customs Union (SACU) countries of Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.

"According to the USDoS Trafficking Report 2008, one local non-governmental organisation (NGO) received reports from Batswana women that they were forced to provide sexual services to tourists at some safari lodges. Usually with the hope of attaining better education and more opportunities, parents from rural areas give their children to better off families in towns. It has been reported that some of these children are later used for domestic servitude or for herding in remote cattle posts," the report says.

It also states that although the government encourages and funds training of law enforcement and immigration personnel in anti-human trafficking methods, a number of NGOs conclude that the local police do not pursue possible trafficking cases because there is no specific law against the crime. "Additionally no government agency has been designated as the leader in the fight against human trafficking. NGOs report that Botswana is a transit country for the trafficking of eastern African women and children to South Africa. Botswana is a destination for Zimbabwean women who are employed as domestic workers," states the report.

The report also says the law does not prohibit trafficking in persons which is dealt with instead by the Penal Code provisions against abduction, kidnapping, slave trading, forced labour, and procuring persons for the purpose of prostitution.

The report further states that even though the Penal Code of Botswana prohibits involvement of girls or women in production of prostitution and pornography, child prostitution has been reported particularly at truck stops and transit points in the large towns.

"However, the law does not protect boys from the same crimes. Other parts of the legislation that need to be revised, according to the International Labour Organisation (ILO)'s Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations (ILO's CEACR), are the use, procuring or offering of a child for illicit activities, monitoring mechanisms, programmes of action, time-bound and effective measures and identification and reach-out to children at special risk", the report says.

It highlights that child labour exists in Botswana as boys are reported to manage cattle herds in isolated areas, sometimes staying without proper food and shelter for days, "whereas girls are largely involved in domestic labour, usually taking care of other children".

"Many children are reported to work in family businesses or in informal economic activities such as street vending and car washing in cities", the report stressed. The ITUC report is presented as the World Trade Organisation's (WTO) General Council, which reviews the trade policies of the SACU member states. WTO members are obliged to comply with basic labour standards in order to get free access to global markets. The report calls on all SACU member countries, "to improve the training of labour inspectors and law enforcement officials in order to identify and remedy cases of child labour, forced labour and violations of trade union rights, as well as improve the application of the penalties foreseen under the law".
