I have heard that this safari opperator is having some problems. Is any one having trouble getting their trophies back? any problems with their condition or getting your trophies and not someone elses? Any info I could get would be helpful.

Since the death of Sean Steyn who ran things, there have been a few hiccups, most are being solved I believe.

But to make life easier-

1) Where did you hunt
2) Did you hunt any CITES appendix I or II game
3) Who was your PH
4) Did you request taxidermy work to be done here

Based on this, I can easily find out weather there are no real problems, just the normal slowness of Zimbabwe, or whether you need to be sending letters to Parks, Ministry, ZTA etc.

Ganyana: If you don't mind my asking, when and what happened to Sean. I met him in Reno about 2000.

Ganyana

I was considering a hunt with Zim Africa Safaris and had gotten word that they were having alot of trouble with trophies being shipped and condition beyond the normal delays and problems that are associated with Zimbabwe.

I hunted with ZimAfrica in July 2003. Sean was killed in a motorcycle accident in J'berg in March 2004. I have talked with several of the parties that used to be involved together and apparently things aren't what they used to be. Its a shame, I really enjoyed Sondelani. Sean was a pleasure to work with and I wish everyone was that easy to deal with.

JD Sean went on a motorcycle Run down to Jo'burg. Was having a race with Wayne Jardine and a vehicle ( Ambulance alledgedly although there are variations on the story) clipped him. At 310kph it was game over.

RW- do your Homework- Check the PH's licence Number and that it is still Zim Africa and not Jimba safaris before you put any cash down. One of Seans ex partners is sailing very close to the wind. Been caught twice now with a doggy licence. Also check the location. The ranch, Sondelani is run by Basil Steyn - fine. Tuli Safari area is run by Thandi Nkomo. Any other "ranch hunts" check. Another of the old company is running a good show on some nyamandlouvu ranches. Others....

So Wayne Jardine is still riding bikes? I thought his back was completely stuffed (?)

Ganyana: Thanks for the info. I quit riding motorcycles a long time ago, when I decided I would either race or live. I had several crashes at good speed, but none at that kind of speed.

Nitro - when I had coffee with Wayne last week he bumped into the local Honda rep and ordered a new trail bike as road racing was getting boring... Broke his shoulder racing carts four years back and had to stop hunting for three years due to a leg injury from a bike crash...He learns nearly as slowly as I do.
You know the bikers motto - "ride fast, take chances"

RW Contact the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority to see if Jimba Safaris is registered. They were not as of last monday...Operators Permits come from ZTA rather than parks (Parks issue PH licences) ZTA is on 263-4-758712/3/4 or email
givemore@ztazim.co.zw

For a promt reply you could always email the association- zatso@mweb.co.zw - but since I can almost certainly guarantee that they are not members Sally or Juliett will tell you the same as I. Also ask who the PH is - there have been some problems with one of them who doesn't have a legit licence.

Two friends just returned from a safari with them and were very happy. The pet kudu that steals the toast off their table and begs for scratches is a real luv. Riding the 14' elephant was a treat, too. They got a Buff and all kinds of plains game.
