Agreed! I’m booked for Ethiopia in January. As long as planes are flying and I won’t be forced in to quarantine there then I will be going...

I keep hoping that the EU isn't crazy enough to add to the destruction of its countries that depend upon summer tourism (France, Italy, Spain) by keeping borders shut and no air travel. I believe that Trump would like to reopen international air travel as well. I think a reopening is possible, but how likely?

Wishful thinking? Yep.

Low levels of obesity in Africa, except amongst politicians. We might 'lose' a few African leaders to this.

It is not that easy unless your destination is privately owned South Africa.

The rest of us north of the Limpopo have a 60% payment of quota that needs to be cashed in before we sell safaris.

Not many operators are going to be prepared to pay a couple hundred thousand dollars for one keen adventurer.

We in Wild Africa have to endure the costs of anti-poaching and management. Currently, it is the survival of the fittest.

The problem is, WHO doesn't know. They are in China's pocket. Untold numbers of rural Africans could be sick and dying, and no one would know but their families.

A friend of mine lives in the Lake Kariba area (Zimbabwe).

Within the last 6 months, his community has lost two members (fishermen) from a rogue hippo attack, one member from a croc attack, one member (fisherman) from rough lake waters, and almost lost another member (critically injured) from a croc attack while pole fishing from the lake shoreline.

To the best of his knowledge, they haven't lost any community members due to the Covid-19 virus.

I feel for you guys Andrew. It’s a difficult situation for us but an entirely more complex situation for you guys up there buying quota. It’s the uncertainty of it all that I think will linger around for some time that will make it tough. We have bookings in 2021 but not even sure which airlines will survive, which is just another uncontrollable variable to add to all the other Africa uncontrollables. This situation definitely helps frame ones priorities and makes us value our clients even more. They fund a way of life in Africa and none of the conservation initiatives would be possible without them. I believe all the best outfitters will survive and thrive after this and you’re certainly one of them. All the best

I cancelled this year due to my law partner's health issues long before the pandemic ever came up. Have rescheduled for next year and hope to be there. I do worry about Africans' abilities at social distancing -- think any market anywhere or a bus in Dar es Salaam.

Agree with others here. The virus is not likely to be fatal to a whole lot of Africans because they are relatively young, dying of something else before they can get old, are not obese for the most part, etc. But they can still pass it on to an old, fat white man on safari. And I've seen a bit of the health care system over there and it's not even as good as you'd expect.

I suspect history will show this little virus made almost no impact on Africans in Africa. Their highly toughened immune systems will demolish this thing.
