Surface shipping from Namibia?

namibiahunterSurface shipping from Namibia?
Has anyone used surface shipping of mounted (or unmounted) trophies from Namibia lately? - and, in particular, to Portland, Oregon or Seattle?
I already have a kudu, an oryx, and a warthog in shoulder mounts coming by air but the next batch will be animals whose horns do not "screw on", like the wildebeest and hartebeest, along with a zebra.
What I'm interested in are:
- cost comparison between air and surface
- between different shipping companies
- condition of trophies upon arrival
I'm not too concerned about the length of time of the actual shipping.
Any advice or recommendation will be appreciated.

L. David KeithSea Cargo generally runs about a third less than air, but pricing can widely vary. Best to check several companies if your doing it yourself. Air time: about a week. Sea time: about 30 days to arrive.
Good hunting,
David

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Bryan ChickWhen we had our last shipment from namibia we asked this question. We were told that there is no ocean shipment from Namibia, so, they would have to inland freight the cargo to S.A., with all sorts of associated permits, fees, etc; and then ocean freight to the U.S. Our shipper did not want to do this, so, the price quoted was quite a bit higher than the quoted air freight.

mhoA friend (who posts here) and I had stuff shipped surface from Namibia last year. Just a few skulls (2x Gemsbok, 2x Springbok, 2x Steenbok) and a Steenbok cape. We had requested our trophies be packed in cardboard boxes, and shipped surface to save costs. Shipping to Europe was really VERY reasonable ($100 or so - I forget the exact number??). It might well have gone via the postal service, I can get the details tomorrow, if anyone is interested...
The boxes arrived in Switzerland somewhat beat up, but I think all skulls and horns were none the worse for wear.
Having been subject to African taxidermy and shipping rip-offs of late, this was a pleasant change!
