AtkinsonMy latest African rifle
I just got the metal work back. It is a Win. Mod 63 22 long rifle. It is complete with a neat little quarter rib, barrel band swivel, barrel band front sight, NECG gold faced partridge front bead, a Talley slide off and on peep that slides on the rear extended quarter rib, and topped off with Talley 7/8" quick detachable rings holding a Leupold 2.5X Leupold Alaskan scope. Now all I need to do is stock it in a piece of near black sho nuff exhibition Turkish walnut that I have been saving for some special project. All is done in petite styling. Its beautiful.
With this little jewell, I will slay Francolin, grouse, small antelope and who knows maybe a full grown Cape Buffalo and pose him on AR for effect.

prof242Sounds great...but, you must also give us the particular bullet you will be using to take that cape buffalo, how many rounds does the magazine hold, and how does the recoil seem when compared with a .600 Nitro Express?

Mind I'm not trying to be picky or critical but do you mean "LYMAN" Alaskan. This is about the second or third time I've seen reference to a 'Leupold' Alaskan but first time I've seen it reffered to as a 7/8". All the Alaskans I have seen and the one I have are Lyman. If there is a Leupold Alakan is it a new model. The Win 63 sounds like something I would dearly love. I have often thought of taking a 22 to Zim for that specific reason. I in fact bought a Kimber .17MachII for that purpose but heard somewhere that you couldn't take a .22 to some countries in Africa.

'07 in .351 self loader, and Mod. 10 .401 self loader. Neat blow back semi-auto rifles. They were all shooters. Heavy. Finally sold them all to make room for new rifles. I gave my ammo to an AR member.
Is yours a re-build original? Taurus makes a copy of this rifle.

I still have the Mod. 63 Winchester I shot my first rabbit with and last year I bought a Taurus Mod. 63 in 22LR. It is a faithful reproduction of the Winchester.
I miss rabbit hunting so much!

Leupold made a small run of the exact, but improved scopes a few years ago and I had 4 of them and sold 3 lately as they got so high. The only difference is the Leupold has a centered crosshair. Neatest scope I ever owned. Made them in 2.5, 4 and 6x.

I will sell this little jewell at any time as I have another just like it in the gun case and I can do the same thing with it!! Right now its price at $1500 with the wood tossed in and thats a steal, once stocked it will fetch about $4500 is my guess. I can't stock it if someone buys it as I will be working on my other one. BTW you can shoot the head off a pin head at 50 yards every time with this one. Those 63s all shoot like varmint rifles. I got 1/2 and 3/4 inch groups in testfire.

BTW, I bloodied the little wonder yesterday. I shot a rockchuck out my kitchen window at about 100 yards, instant kill, so now I know it will get me a Cape Buffalo with a head shot, slip one in the ear and run like hell yelling Pierre, he's all yours!

I just picked up a M-63 from your neck of the woods. Bromley's in Plymoth, IA. I grew up shooting a M-63 with my Grandpa and when he passed on it went to someone else in the family. Anyway, now I have my own. Would like to see pictures of what you did with your's.

My records show it is New Zealand walnut, not Turkish, and it is almost black and has green highlights. I have been hoarding it for years. It is beatiful stuff, and most fitting for my new Cape Buff gun.
