I was watching a hunting video here. It looks to me like the hippo was shot while it was in the water. Is that right?
How do you get a dead hippo out of the water without a tractor?

Cool video. Thanks!

I'm not sure I would like creeping around in swamps full of hippos.

Retrieving a hippo from the water is always a goat rope involving a lot of man power and the Cruiser if possible. It's an EXPERIENCE!

It is totally dependent on what type of rolling you planning on doing. Cool

Not if you kill in Zambia where I did!
Wait 1 1/2 hours, when he floats tie a rope to him and tug up river in dugout for several hundred metres, ground him on a sand bar, take 15 folks and roll him to dry land, make pics, cut him up, canoe across river 4 or 5 times wenching up meat over high bank, run off crocs and another bull coming to check, give most of meat to Game Scout training camp who helped you out.....oh yeah, go lay in river with water up to chin to cool off while butchering and fill hat with water and pour over your head....other than that, to get him out of water , you squeal like a cow in heat...

I had wondered what you guys do with the meat. I have to figure you give it to locals. I'm sure they won't let you bring it back.

Good. Grass fed, much like beef. Real nice grilled, with some chips (fries) and fried eggs.

Also makes good 'tong. Lots of mafuta.

Go figure.

You hit the nail on the head!!! I once had to tow (with a L/C) a small tractor and L/R that were trying to pull a big Hippo Bull out of a river - Unfortunately I didn't take a photo cause we were racing against time!! Admittedly the L/R was an older but still would have been a classic pic!
