Where are the biggest Gemsbok trophies hunted? I had always thought that perhaps Namibia was the location with best trophies in recent years but a friend says I am wrong. So where do the best gemsbok trophies over the last few years come from?

Must be Namibia around the Kalahari...a lot of the big ones get captured and sent to ranches across RSA and end up getting shot there. same with springbok and red hartebeest Wink

Namibia is and has always been good for Gemsbok trophies. The Kalahari region of the Northern Cape is also very good.

On my last hunt in Namibia I saw the horns of a 46" male gemsbok that had died on a ranch near Okahandja. There is a picture of it in my hunt report.

Namibia. Mostly Kalahari and Namib areas, also some big heads in the more bushy centarl and northern regions (though not as good as the desert regions IMO)

Can personally recomend Dirk de Bot or Hannes Steyn in Namibia. The year I hunted on Hannes' ranch the smallest male taken was 40" (Mine). At one time, the third partner (partnership now disolved) "guaranteed" a 40" or better.

Hi Terry

Yes, Piet was the third partner. Off the bottle he is a darn good man. Haven't seen him for a couple of years though

White Sands New Mexico USA has some of the finest gemsbok on the planet. And they are 100% free ranging on thousands of square miles of Kalahari like terrain. Cool

Of course they were transplanted there back in the 60's or the 70's from the Kalahari proper.

I shot a 40" bull there back in 1994.

I went to Namibia three years ago specifically to shoot a 40" Gemsbok. Hunted with Pieter Stofberg of Nimrod Safaris and, while he did not guarantee a 40" trophy, I did get one at 41.25".
