Gents,
I am trying to nail down whether and which solids to take for a buff.I will probably take Northfolks 370gr @ 2400fps as softs.Mike from NF still recommends taking proper "solids" as follow up or Texas heart shots.
Given the demise of GS , I see a few options:
Barnes 400 gr X or XLC ,here the question is whether this is a proper solid compared to the Barnes 400gr Solid Bullet.
2 Hornady I think also makes a .416 RN solid.
Bridger' website is still not up and not responding to E-mails.

Thanks for sharing

Hornady's are plenty good enough. Just make sure you don't wind up wounding everything else in the neighborhood.

With 400gr solids by Barnes...

Hi Sheephunter:

I used a 416 Rem Mag in Tanzania of 2002 to shoot a 46 in. Buff.

I used Barnes Solids and Swift Aframes, both 400 grains, at about 2500 FPS.

When he went down after the first shot, a Aframe Soft, I followed up from the rear with five more solids.

The recovered solids, could of been reloaded again, only marks were from the rifleing in the barrel.

Botht shot less than one inch and point of aim at 100 yards.

Regards... Jim P.

I shoot a .416 Rem and have hunted with the monolithic super solid from Barnes as well as the more traditional Hornady solid. Both will do the job on buffalo just fine.

I'll second the vote for the 400 grain Barnes solid. I used them in my .416 Rem Mag for buff in 2002 and they performed beautifully. My first bullet in the chamber and ultimately in the bull was a 400 grain Barnes XLC. Two followups in the Barnes solids were unnecessary but who knew at the time! I've also used the Barnes 300 grain solids in 2003 for buff in Tanzania. They work.

All very good bullets but also check the point of impact between your softs and solids. I had good luck with Woodleigh 400gr. solids as they had a similar impact point to my Woodleigh softs.
