Gentlemen

I would like to know if anyone has hunted with Natasha Illum Berg or know anything about her ?

She is Danish/Swedish and PH in Tanzania she has written two books "Floder af rd jord" (Rivers of red soil) and "Te i den bl sofa"(Tea on the Blue Sofa). Her great grand farther was A.C. Illum founder of a big warehouse/Mall.

She was trained under 3 PH'ers She refers to them as The Fox The Jackel and the Old dog ???

Her boyfriend Antonio Trzebinski a well known artist was murdered with a bullet through the hart. This took place in Nairobi where Natasha lived at that time. This happened on October 16 2001 http://news.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2001/11/21/wkeny21.xml

http://www.guardian.co.uk/print/0%2C3858%2C4290399-103680%2C00.html

She now lives on the slopes of volcano Mt. Meru in north Tanzania.

Jrgen Flindt-Pedersen (Danish Journalist) made a TV documentary about her with the title "Jeg Elsker Bfler" ("I Love Buffalos")

Cheers,

Andr

Her new book are translated into English, but not yet available at the publishers. You can order a copy at amazon.co.uk, the title is Tea on the Blue Sofa.
I sincerely hope her first book will be translated as well.

If I hunted with or for her, my wife would gut shoot me (Texas Neck Shot) and then track me for a month while I lingered.

Andr, thanks for the update!

The TV-program you refer to, was it the same where they presented the scheme in Tanz to let the local communities benefit more from the hunts? Danish Hunters Association are involved and she as a PH is working in this development program. She is a very good ambassadeur for hunting in this TV-program.

Ah, those nicknames made me curious as well when I read the book...

I would very much like to know who that was/is.
She is very careful about not stepping on someone's toes. I like that she has class.
I glanced in the blue sofa book and I am sorry to tell you that it looks very good
I will read more tonight

Cheers,

Andr

Andr,
My impression when I read the book was the anyone with insight in the world of Tanz PH:s should be able to decipher those names but perhaps there are too many of them and these ones are in fact well disguised.

I will try to get a copy through some Danish internet bookstore, but thanks for the offering you made in the other thread.

Martin

I know Natasha very well and she and Pierre are good friends...She is a great gal..I was under the impression that she had moved back to Sweeden..She worked for Tanzania Game Trackers off and on...

If she is Ph-ing, then I could book you a hunt with her, but I have not heard from her in some time and would have to contact her to find out what she was doing these days and sometimes I run across her in Dar es Salaam while I am there..She is an excellent PH. shoots a nice 465 double. Very classy lady...

Ray,
I am glad to hear that you have got the same impression in real life, that I have got from her book and the TV-program and our brief mail-contact. I understand that she have lived in Sweden part-time in later years, but of course she might have moved back here more permanently.
After what she has been through, I hope she is doing well.

Martin

Marterius,
Natasha is a tough lady, and not prone to being pushed aside or pushed around..She is definatly a survivor, I feel honored to know her, and she will do well I'm sure.

I have only met her on a couple of ocassions, but we hit it off well from the start... I had supper with her, Pierre van Tonder and Hamish Manning year before last, and I run into her from time to time, and she is always a cheer to see...just a nice lady.

If she shot anybody, then its probably because they deserved it!

Next time I see her I will tell her of the interest she is raising here on AR! Those photos don't potray a true picture of who she is; in simple words, she takes no s**t She is a tough cookie and has no time for men who regard her like a lady in need of protection.

She does not guide full time and has only guided a couple of trips in the last 2 years to keep her PH license valid....just in case.

One of the Ph's she trained under was Sanchez Arino...not sure if he was the jackal, the fox or the Old dog

Russ,
I should not worry so much about snakes or ladies with snakes, it was not the snake that made Adam eat of the apple... Had Eve known more about snakes, she would not have been tempted to eat either.

Thank you for the useful info.
I am glad that you think highly of her.
I am very interested in her due to her Danish/Swedish roots. I also studied Rudolf Sand, Gregers Ahlefeldt L. Bille, PH Erik Lindstrm and other Danish Great African hunters.
The TV Dock on her was not to my liking, it was about how she loved buffalo hunting but they never showed any hunting scenes or shoots for that matter. I think they where afraid of showing the public this beautiful girl kill animals. To me it was like making a TV dock about Joe Montana with out showing any football scenes.
You should read her books they are so well written, you will be amazed, it is deep in a delightfull way, absolutely top draw, She could be the next Karen Blixen.
Gentlemen this forum is so great.

Cheers,

Andr

Jeffey,
Problematic post on your part, I don't read Dutch or whatever the book was printed in...I only read English and Spanish, and I don't think the book is printed in English is it?

If it is, I will surely buy one...

Ray, her second book is listed at Amazon.com in English translation, but are not available from the publishers until August: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0007178697/qid%3D1086802218/026-6842296-1483604

Hopefully her first book will be translated as well.

Perfect! I'm not interested in wimpy dames. I'm interested in the ones who can handle a Winchester and skin a bear. Preferably, they're also pretty and use books for what they were intended, rather than doorstops.

Ray? Remember Sigourney Weaver in "Aliens" (the second in the series)? When Sigourney was all hot and sweaty and greasy and carrying all that firepower to take on the "mama" alien? A couple of rifles, a flamethrower, a grenade launcher... God, she was HOT!

UV index? I don't know. All I know is I went nine MONTHS without seeing ONE, SINGLE, SOLITARY CLOUD!!! Everyday was a "bright, sun-shiney day." I'M SICK OF "BRIGHT, SUN-SHINEY DAYS!!!" I now enjoy massive, violent thunderstorms with lots of rain, lots of thunder, lots of lightning, and it's an extra treat when there's hail, too.

I know, I know. A lot of you folks love "sunshine." Look, speaking personally, going day after DAY of having my retinas fried in an environment where sunglasses weren't just for being "cool" but for survival of your vision... well, nevermind. You just had to be there. As to a UV factor, all I can say is, there wasn't jack-squat blocking any of the sun's rays as far as I could tell.

And everyday in July and August was 150 degrees. Okay, perhaps I'm exaggerating. Some days only got up to 147 degrees.

It didn't cool off, really, until the end of September. I remember several nights of it being 110 or so at 0200 hours. Everyone had "murder lines" around them, on their cots, each morning. "Murder lines," you ask? You know... when someone gets murdered and the cops draw a chalk outline around the corpse before it's taken away. That's what was on everyone's cot -- from the salt in their perspiration that POURED OUT OF THEIR BODIES NIGHT AFTER NIGHT IN THAT GOL-DURN HEAT!!!

I lost 53 pounds over there. I left at 262 on 23 Jan 03; by 3 Nov 03, when we weighed in before taking our PT test, I was at 209. Svelt sucker, I was. I'm holding at about 230 now, but I'll probably lose it before my August bear hunt in Arizona.

Anyway... it was hot and it was sunny. I don't know anything about the UV factor, except how to spell it.

Take care.
