Nickudu, No idea what kind of numbers we are talking about at the moment. I just thought this would be an interesting place to check people's reaction to this idea. I would guess a bi-monthly would be a good idea to begin with, or, a quarterly if you want to be extremely cautious. Even a book would be more interesting on CD/DVD because of the video component, something that print could never offer. Yes, we should see how the idea evolves. I just thought I'd put forth a suggestion and offer to subscribe as soon as the idea is accepted by the Administrators. Best wishes and good hunting!

DRG, I shall look forward to meeting you in Jan. As I said, we would like you to have dinner with us when you come here. Hopefully, we should have a much clearer picture of what kind of support the idea has as well as what further possibilities arise over the next two months. Best wishes and good hunting!

Johan, PDF is a good idea for on demand publishing but I thought of a CD/DVD for the video component. Right now, there is no other magazine that has this and neither does any other gun magazine have members with the kind of experience that AR members have. I just thought of the video idea because it is the way to go as far as the future is concerned. I have no idea of costs in the US in bulk but in India CDs are sold in bulk for INR 2.50 a piece or approx US 6.3 cents and DVDs in bulk for INR 4.50 a piece or US 10 cents. I would presume that if there are a sufficient number of people who sign up, this could be workable. Just my 2c. Good hunting!

I have some editing experience also. I'd be willing to help/volunteer with a new magazine....

All good thoughts Mehul. Well since I will be seeing you in person in January (end of month) we can discuss this further. I'm also seeing Saeed in person soon, so I'll discuss it with him also. I have a few ideas that can make this less work that you guys realize by writing some routines that once a thread is "selected" it can be saved in a separate directory for publishing. Our AR store could then print these "on demand". I'm still investigating it, but this might not be as difficult as first thought. Don

Bill, You are missing the point. I don't want other peoples' pictures. I want to recruit and photograph the models myself. Regards, Terry

Let's say for a minute we went the "CD" route. How many are we talking about? Dozens, hundreds, thousands? and how often? Monthly, quarterly? It takes time to burn so many and then we have overhead and distribution costs. Too much, I think. Something like this would need to evolve here, at least for starters. Down the road, you could always scrape off the cream and produce another book or two. (?)

I'm not against the internet, but on-line books, magazines, etc., don't seem to have much archival value. And it is difficult to fall asleep in bed at night reading a laptop. And it still needs an editor, because not everything posted is worth "publishing"....you can see the fights and hurt feelings starting already. You need an editor, or organizer, a fall guy, or whatever. One server crash and the e-zine is toast. Not much archival value in that.

Although I love the idea I suspect Don s right about the work involved. An alternative would be an online magazine???

Just something I've been mulling over for a while now. We might consider the creation of an " E-Zine " right here at "AR". In the wake of many weeks spent sorting through old threads, I rediscovered many wonderfully informative threads and individual posts, worthy of any magazine. Were they to be better organized for referal, the resultant body of work would be enormous and would of course grow as time goes on. Although many threads are superb in their entirety, the ability to extract the extraneous, would produce a fabulous result. As each new "subject" was agreed upon, interested members could participate via perusing, evaluating, gathering (via cut and paste operations) and forwarding their findings to an "Organizer".

Interesting idea but who is going to foot the bill? It is too much work for even one person, much less doing it for free. Even if you charge a more or less brak even subscription cost, there is a lot of startup costs. I'll be the editor, but who is going to pay my fat salary???

Oldsarge, With the experts here I think it would cover almost every aspect of hunting possible. It might end up with each issue coming out as thick as a telephone directory, of course, but it would be as interesting to read as it would be voluminous. Johan, I hope we'll see Seyfried write in some English magazine along with some vastly experienced members here who don't write for any magazine at all. And since Seyfried writes in Swedish magazines, perhaps Swedish experts could write here too. Good hunting!

The problem with this idea is the sheer amount of work involved. If someone were to do all the work, Saeed and I might consider lending our name to the venture if our share of the profits went to Charity. However, I doubt if this could be done on a volunteer basis, just too much involved. Don
