A fantastic book! My wonderful wife just gave this book to me as a Christmas gift. I love it! One of the best African hunting books I have ever read! Not only does Mr Robertson cover proper shot placement from all the different angles on each of the major African species; he gives complete information on proper rifle / cartridge / load combinations, bullet performance, trophy handling, trophy assessment, etc.. I highly recommend this book.
My wife purchased it through Safari Press.

I just got a copy of the book from PWN375 (brother) and have been giving it a read. I have really enjoyed it so far. It is full of useful information that a tyro like myself needs to read and understand. I have read the section on ele hunting about four times now. Great book.

yes I do agree, it's a great book. I have a copy myself, read it often. I usually take it on safari with me, the PH's enjoy having it there.

If you would like to read another good book something like "The Perfect shot" check out Lou Hallamore's "In the Salt" he goes one step more, and talks about the PH backing you up or not.

Great book but FWIW a note of caution if you are shooting a 375H&H and use Doktari's reduced velocity loads. Make sure if you reduce velocity you are using tough (Barnes X?) bullets. I loaded the reduced velocity with Speer AGS softs which resulted in poor penetration. Awesome on kudu, nyala, and zebra but the buff and eland were unimpressed. Next time I'll stoke em to the max and pick my shots accordingly.

I bought it a year or so ago....very good info. Some of those buggers have inards in different places than our game.

You might be surprised to know that there are other experienced folks that disagree with some of that baloney. It is all the same stuff, but you will find that out eventually.

Or you might get villified for agreeing with the author in that the shoulder shot is the preferred method of bagging your trophy. jorge

I agree its a pretty good book, but I don't agree with everything Kevin says such as slowing bullets down for better killing effect, just not so with todays premium bullets, thats just old hat IMO...for the most part he is correct and he is a vet and does have a proper background in animal anotomy I suspect....All in all its a good book..

Robertson's book is a good read. For field use, I took a copy of African Hunter's Shot Placement Guide with me to RSA last May. Nice to have a pocket-size version with conversion tables, personal and gun information, and game log.

Does anyone know what happened to Kevin Robertson? He was pushed off his farm by the squatters in Zimbabwe and I lost track of him.

Robertson is still a regular contributor to The Accurate Rifle magazine. Not sure where he is living now. He surely got shafted by Bobby Mugabe and his thugs!
