Mims, I have been wondering, what is the best brand of soft case to place your rifles in when you use a Tuffpak? I plan to most often take two scoped bolt-guns with 24" barrels.

If you have a particular make you could recommend other than what I have (Boyt), I'd gladly buy two of them from you!

That's a good question....I'll be surprised and further educated if he recommends something as being better than Boyt!

Good hunting,

Andy

Not to presume to speak for Mims, but I recalled his post.

Another vote for Boyt. I have been selling and using Boyt cases for 30 years. I have some that I bought for myself as supposed seconds some 25 yrs. ago and I still travel in them. Never have figured out why they were seconds. If you want a plain inexpensive case with padding then just get the Uncle Mike's ...works like a champ.

I think the point is that for riding in a Tuffpak or in a gun rack the Uncle Mike's will work fine, but that Boyt is about as good as it gets.

Boyts are good, but Red Oxx is better (IMHO).

Hi Allen,

Again, not harry, but I also have a Tuffpak that I brought to Africa with two firearms enclosed and I was very happy with:

I added muzzle protectors made from 450ml plastic water bottles cut off at ends and lined with two layers of blue closed cell foam padding.

Damn...that is what is so great about AR...you ask a question and you get a good answer and then someone like Canadian Lefty gives you an even better hint like the muzzle protector. Even if you don't use it you gotta admit it is a neat idea!

I use Boyt as I have for a zillion years and if I need to stuff it full quick because I don't have many clothes etc I use the Uncle Mike's as they are fat due to the foam liners.

I keep Boyt and UM in stock.

I have made one major mistake in gun cases all my life...I must have 40 to 50 soft cases (I make a gun show now and then you know) but...they are various sizes. I wish all were 48" with a few 52" in there and then I would not have to see which case fits which gun.

Well if I had known that I wouldn't have ordered mine (the Uncle Mike's) directly from them. You did save me money over buying Boyt by mentioning the Uncle Mike's would work fine in the Tuffpak, although I still need to pick up a takedown case for the Pedersoli before next fall.

I use any heavy canvas type gun case, the most important thing to do is pad the bottom and the top as only when a case is dropped end on will it break a stock, it snaps them at the grip...I use coats, boots and sweaters, but a good thick bubble wrap in the bottom and top would serve you well. Just remember to use padding of some sort on tope an bottom...Also too thick a gun case limits space in a tuff case and makes its use on Safari difficult as it does not fit in the outside gun racks well....for what its worth...

Come on by and I have both Boyt (the best) and UM (for taking up room) in stock.
