I am not sure which country you are going. But sometimes in Africa can be difficult for an outfitter to have extra ammo especially for those calibers. I would check with your outfitter that you are going to go with to see if he can get some for you before you get there.

you should take as much ammo as you think you will , need , especially in those european calibres , you wont have a chance to purchase ammo ...

many plains game outfitters will allow you to hire rifles in which case they will also provide ammo ...

hope that this helps

Split your ammo between bags; if you're going with a partner stash some in every bag. Take the full allotment of 5kg (11 lbs) per passenger.

DO NOT count on being able to find anything.

Any gunshop in RSA should have either of these calibers but ESPECIALLY 8x57.

As long as it's not the (rimmed) 8x57JRS, you shouldn't have a problem in RSA. Speak to your outfitter about a trip to one of the better dealers if you're hunting in RSA.

While a good fun store in RSA might have 8mm, I would not be as positive over the availability of 6.5x55. I asked about the 6.5 once in RSA and it was virtually unknown. Kudude

There was Highland 6,5x55 around a while ago..saw a few boxes in Pretoria area and still see it advertised by different stores, but its certainly not common and out of main centres, I would not count it!
