I also notice, as a sign of the times, his preference was to be immortalized with rifle in hand, rather than the tools of his trade.

Is he holding a Gibbs or Farqharson (sp?) single-shot rifle?
He lived to be 51 years of age if my math is right- what did he pass from?
I stood at Victoria Falls in 1997 and it is amazing how similar it appeared even back then.

His rifle looks more like a Jones underlever double, probably not a big bore. Bob. One of the other pictures in the site looks like a single.

Beautiful pictures. It was a matter of pride to show one's gun off and it still is in parts of the world where life is slow and close to nature.

Sometimes one wonders which was a more civilised era... theirs or ours with video games and similar rubbish.
