By the way, the Russians are hunting Zimbabwe too, like nobody's business. Like the other Europeans(including many Spanish clients), Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. etc. it won't affect them either.

Complete sanctions of all US trade with Zim will not help. It will not help the average Zimbabwean, only make things worse for them I believe. There are many tenacious, hard working PH's and conservationists that have come from and still remain in this country, and to pull the plug will result in chaos, for both people and the wildlife. There are no simple answers unfortunately, but banning hunting/tourism is not one of them.

The Chinese are already a role player in Zim.. That's part of the reason Mugabe still around.. Nice new Automatics and Shells and trucks.. They need all the sorces of agricultural goods that they can get their hands on.. And especially things the US can't embargo..

"Yes the ruling regime is better armed but so where the English when our ancestors took their destiny into their own hands."

So true, but the English were equiped with Brown Bess muskets, muzzle loading cannons and a fleet of wooden, sail powered warships. Nothing compared to AK's, anti-tank rockets, artillery and some airpower, even some mobility with trucks and APC's.

Our forefathers were equiped with muskets, rifles a few cannons and a few converted wooden, sail powered merchantmen/warships. The mass of the Zim population is equiped with rocks. We were significantly stronger in relative terms.

gerry375, damn you are quick. I am of Pa Dutch decent. I agree our representation in the US Senate is a bit left of center. We use to have a great Senator. NY had some good Senators in the past but now you are lead by those gun grabbing despots in the senate, nuff said. BOOM gerry I forgot to add you are a racist bastard!

Jtex maybe you are right about the people from south africa prolonging it by sending money to zimbabwe. But they are not sending money to keep Mugabe into power they are sending money to feed starving parents and children and pay for school and hospital fees.

Subject: ZIMBABWE HUNTING 2008 - LIST OF BANNED 10/31/07

Dear Overseas Members,

There has been a rumour circulating that the US Government intends to stop its citizens from hunting in Zimbabwe next year. Funnily enough the same rumour circulated at the end of last year too - and we wonder whether our competitors might have something to do with it. Our booths at SCI next January are numbers 2752 and 2754. Please come and see us there.

Just to put your minds at rest, the US Embassy here in Harare have sent me the latest "Banned" list which I attach. You may not do business with any of those on the list, If in any doubt whatsoever, ask your Operator directly if he has anything to do with any of those on the banned list. If you wish to look it up yourself the website is www.treas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/sdn/prgrmist.txt. If you want a further link to the USA Treasury's webpage on Zimbabwe see www.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/programs/zimbabwe/zimb.shtml.
We have had a successful 2007 hunting season and have had some very respectable trophies taken. The results of the Trophy Awards will be circulated to you after the Hunters & Guides Ball on 23rd November.

We hope you will be planning for a hunt in Zimbabwe next year, but please ensure you book with one or our registered, licenced operators. Our membership can be seen on our website www.soaz.net. We have been off the air for a while whilst updating information but are back again now. If you have any queries I will be pleased to try and answer them.

Please visit our stands at SCI in January.

Yours sincerely

Sally Bown

If hunting in Zim, make sure you take reasonable efforts to insure that you are not hunting with an outfitter or on property associated with individuals on the above list.

Political office at the embassy say there is no truth in the report and no hint of wider sanctions. A few more names will be added to the list and a few of the hunting companies that act as fronts for people on the banned list may shortly be added to the buisness banned list - but as the three companies under review are not ones I would ever recomend- who cares??

I am pretty damn sure that Don Causey didn't just make up the conversation he relayed to his subscibers and was posted here.

Understood Jeff but you of all people can see where Causey was wrong when he told everyone to go to TZ because it would be ok this year. The point is that no one can predict all of this stuff. Sometimes you are too conservative and sometimes you should be more conservative. He provides a good service but it's not always correct like hindsight. How could it be?

Brian,

I agree. But to state the "report is untrue" is not based in fact either. It is just one more reason to stay tuned.

I'm all about staying tuned in. I spent almost an hour on the phone to Harare today doing exactly that on a number of Zim subjects. I also recently signed up for the Hunt Report (even sprung extra for the email version) as I want to know every source I can before I make decisions.

Having said that, if you want the straight poop then ask Ganyana. If he says it's so then it's so or if not, he won't say it. That's been my experience and that of many others. As far as I'm concerned he's the "Zim Hunt Report" and I'm glad he's available.
