I'll be hunting in Limpopo RSA in June and considering a trip to Vic Falls with my wife and kids. I'll probably arrange it through my outfitter, but wanted to hear from some others on any recommendations for side trips, places to stay etc.

Thanks

A couple thoughts:

Visit both the Zimbabwe and Zambia sides of the falls. The best views probably come from the Zimbabwe side walking east toward the bridge as long as there isn't too much mist.

View the gorge from multiple places below the falls.

If you don't stay at The Victoria Falls Hotel, at least walk through and experience Old Africa.

Take a river cruise above the falls with the entire family. Make sure and ask the cruise director what happens if the engines fail. Wink

If your family enjoys whitewater rafting, run the cataracts below the falls.

Your kids may want to bungee off the bridge.

Fly a helicopter or plane over the falls for the best views.

June is probably too early to experience the Devils Pool or the Angels Armchair. If water levels are down you might get the chance. Make sure to ask.

IMHO, Victoria Falls is one of the must see locations in Africa. Be prepared to spend some money. Hope you have a blast!

Aren't all of these waterways inhabited by crocodiles?

Everything stated above good.

1) elephant interaction at elephant encounter is good.
2) The Fuller Lion interaction is good.
3) go on a game drive in Zambezi National Park…incredible what you see there. I would recommend emailing or WhatsApping Nigel Theisen (a PH) and going on the game drive with him. PM me for his contact…he lives there.
4) have one dinner at 3 Monkeys
5) have breakfast one morning in Elephant walk shopping area then shop

We are there often…may run into you.

We have visited the falls on both the Zambian side and the Zimbabwean side and stayed in both the Royal Livingstone and The Victoria Falls hotels.

Each side has its charms.

We enjoyed the game drive through Chobe National Park in Botswana (a short drive from the falls) and the boat ride down the Chobe River (lots of crocs, hippos, buffalo and elephant). These can be arranged from either side.

The helicopter ride over the falls is a must. I think the helos only fly on the Zimbabwean side, but could be mistaken.

The Zim side has more frontage on the falls, but the Zambian side is just as awesome, literally. The Zambian side offers access to the edge of the falls on rocky islands when the Zambezi is at low water.

In Vic Falls you will say "No, thank you." more often to more street vendors in less time than you will do anywhere outside of Cairo.

Have fun!

The white water run below the falls is a must do if you’re fit enough to manage the climb in and out the gorge. I’ve done it three times and it’s an incredible morning outing.

All of the above for sure. Plus, have dinner one night at the Boma! Wild game meats, Mopane Worms, entertainment, etc. etc. etc. You dress up in African costume upon entering. Definitely loved high tea at the Old Victoria Falls Hotel and breakfast/lunch there. Staying at the Old Victoria Falls Hotel is a must and is a wonderful experience for sure. Helicopter ride and booze cruise are also must do's, as is the walking tour of both sides of the falls.

Livingstone Island is a must do, once in a lifetime experience. We stayed at the Victoria Falls hotel and crossed over to the Zambia side for lunch on the island.

You and your family will love Vic Falls.

We were there in 2019. Daughter bungee jumped off the bridge - got the video, it's great - and she loved it. She also did a big gorge swing. There was a lion encounter they did while I was hunting one day - great photos.

While in Vic Falls, look around a bit and buy some trillion dollar bills. You can get all the 100 billion and up you want for a couple bucks.

I brought home $280,000,000,000,000 and spend about $30 on it. Great fun.

We also took a sunset booze cruise on the river - that was fun too.

My partner and I stayed at Old Drift Lodge last July for a few days. Great lodging and food and they also arranged excursions to the falls as well as river cruise and dinner.

They also have game drives.

I think it's pretty easy to catch a tigerfish while you're there. I was able to catch a couple small ones (bigger one was 3 pounds or so) from the bank at an ecotourism resort during a pre-safari trip in 2010. I'm sure there are better places for tigers, but just catching those small ones was pretty special for me.

The Victoria Falls Hotel is a classic: afternoon tea on the veranda, and please dress for dinner in the Livingston Room. Also, the Zambezi sunset cruise by Ra-Ikane is great.

In June the water is still high, and the falls less visible. I don't think it's worth to go to both sides, just do the Zimbabwean side.
Tiger-fishing also depends on the time of the year, the fishing starts picking up in June, so it's early.

I just did what you want to do.

Contact Kathi Klimes who posts here or Heather Ellement in Vic Falls (she is on Whatsapp) to arrange for you. You need some guidance so I would work with one of these two ladies for the perfect trip.

Can’t ride anymore. The animal rights activist got this stopped. You can walk with them in their little local habitat or feed them. The feeding event is worth while once.

+1

I had always wanted to do an ultralight flight, so I did one over the falls. That was the most fun of anything I did there. Lots of other fun things to do in addition to the flight.

I stayed at Ilala Lodge Hotel. Highly recommended. Walking distance to the falls and curio shopping. Great food and accommodations on site. 3 Monkeys for lunch was good, too. Thats all I had time for.

We have been extremely happy with a Zimbabwe couple, Liz Read and Chris Worden, that live and operate out of Victoria Falls. Their company is Foot Steps of Livingstone and they know the ins and outs of that area, including Botswana and Hwange.

Chris is an expert on Dr Livingstone and if you have the time will give a lecture on the history of Livingstone. Quite interesting.

Liz sets us up with discounted rates in the Hotel and some of the Lodges and helped do all the stuff mentioned in other posts along with some excursions known only to the locals.

High Tea after a plunge in the Devils Pool makes for an exciting contrast and both are a well worth it. When I was there the water was high and the swim to get to the pool was more challenging than I expected.
A number of people decided to stay at the cook out which is a graceful exit for those who change their mind. That being said I would not miss the opportunity to do it when your there.
