Fired from Model 70 Winchester .300 win magnum, Federal 200 grain TBBC

Bullet on left was recovered from gemsbok, about a 225 yard frontal shot to the heart. It did not hit any bones and penatrated to the "guts in the back" per the skinner. Weight 199 grains expanded to .725 Gemsbok went 25 yards and was down

Bullet on right was a 120 yard shoulder shot on a mountain zebra. It appears it lost a part of the "bear claw" going thru the bone. Weight 179 grains expanded to .590 ( not counting the sharp point on the left). Found inside the offside ribs. Zebra went 100 yards and was down.

I'm guessing .308" 200 grainers? From what cartridge?

The TBBC is well respected in Africa. My PH in Zimbabwe said Federal is his favorite. My 300 gr. mushroomed perfectly on a cape buffalo's shoulder (high lung) and held 248.5 gr. The buffalo ran 100 yards and laid down. He appeared unnable to raise his head when found and I finished him with a sledgehammer through the lungs.

BigB,

Thanks for the added info. Do you know what muzzle velocity you were getting? Handload or Federal factory load? I want to try that bullet in my 30-06, or the 180gr version, for a safari with my son.

The 300gr Trophy Bonded Bearclaw Federal std velocity load out of my 375H&H performed well on everything from impala to eland. I got three back, one from a waterbuck, one from a wildebeast and one from an eland and all of them looked like they belong in an add, even the one from the eland, recovered from his spine after a front on shot. There was evidence that they were beginning to open on the impala too. That kind of performance over that weight range of game is remarkable.

JPK,

Federal factory ammo, 200 grain TBBC P300WT1 they list

muzzle 2700 fps
100 yards 2476
200 yards 2263

I have also used the Federal TBBC factory ammo in 375 H & H and 470 NE all recovered bullets were very high weight retention and excellent expansion. I used the 180 grain Federal factory 30.06 TBBC on a black bear this year with good results but no recoverd bullets. This is also the round I use for deer but also no recovered bullets.

BigB,

Thanks for the info. I may have to try the TBBC on a deer or two this fall just to see if they work as well as the 300gr 375's did on everything.
