Looking to hunt Kudu
I'm looking for a plains game hunt in either Namibia or South Africa with a reputable outfit with a proven track record where I have a good chance at a 50+inch Kudu, and where I might be able to bring my wife. I am hoping such an outfit would have options for her to participate in on days that she chooses not to accompany me out in the field. Any solid info would be appreciated

PM Luan who posts here. He's very careful about how many kudu he takes off of his property but those he does take are mucking fonsters! tu2

He'll also be able to lay on plenty of activities for your wife.

Louis Van Bergen has some nice ones one his personal ranch (SA). I have been on his ranch a couple of times and looked over a bull or two-- he is very selective

My buddy shot one last year off Louis place.. smallest one Louis took all year.. he taped out at 53 in

Review Matwetwe Safaris. Hendrik Botha's operation is tops.

May 13, 2011 I killed a 54" kudu (that was accompanied by another kudu trophy of similar size).

Not SA or Namibia but Botswana, try Clive Eatons ranch near Ghanzi. tholosafaris@gmail.com or I believe Wendell and maybe Mark Young book for him. He definately has kudu over 50 + inches. Price is right also

My good friend Andre Viljoen hunts RSA in numerous places and is a small operator. Knows how to fit a hunt when bringing the wife along.

A second nod for Jan du Plessis, Sebra Hunting Adventures in Namibia. Several heavy kudu over 50 inches in all shapes and sizes. I preferred the wide, open curls and I got what I wanted. Also several 40+ inch Gemsbok bulls.

Shona Hunting Adventures in Namibia would be a good bet. My dad hunted with them last year and we are both hunting with them in 2012. The accomodations are outstanding and they can arrange all kinds of activities for non-hunters. My dad's wife absolutely loved it.

My dad killed a 54" kudu and saw many other bulls during his hunt. Shona hunts the Kaoko-Etosha Conservancy well as private farms.

If your looking for Kudu in the 55-60 inch range, you should consider the area, PH success rates over the last 3 years and cost. Many now charge surplus trophy fees according to length of horn. Time of year will matter greatly. If I can advise you on such a hunt, drop me a line.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Take a look at Cruiser safaris, they have fantastic Kudu, run a great camp and are priced very nice. They will take good care of you from before the hunt to after the hunt.

Thanks!

I second what CD Roxby said, contact Johann Veldsman and his Shona Hunting Adventures www.shona-adventures.com.
He post here on AR as Shona.
Johann runs a supreme outfit in a remote and breathtaking landscape.

No fences and free roaming animals.
We saw several kudus that was bigger than the one I finally took while we was there.e

Read my hunting report "Shona Hunting Adventures, Namibia" on page two in Hunting Reports.

Thank you, all of you who replied to my post. I am looking to hunt in 2013. This will be my first, and probably only, trip to Africa. I am a working man, and have hunted all over North America by saving from week to week. I realized that the one thing left on my bucket list is a Greater Kudu, and it is time to take the steps to make it happen. I am not looking to go over and kill 12 animals in a week. I would be happy with just 3 or 4, with an impala, and maybe a Nyala added into the mix. If I were to go there, and just come back with a good Kudu, my with would be fulfilled. I guess that now I have some "homework" to do. Thanks for your help.

Try Andre at Eitaalo Safaris in Namibia. Nice family, lots of fun for the hunter and spouse and I shot a 60 incher year before last. Check out Eitaalohuntingsafaris.com.

I've hunted with John X Safaris 8 times in the past 20+ years in RSA. Can't say enough good things about them. I have 2 50"+ kudus on the wall I've taken with them. I've hunted with two generations of van Zijl's and consider them my friends. You can't go wrong here:
