Gayne C. YoungMonkeys are fun
I got some nice trophies on my last trip to South Africa but nothing's as much fun as popping those little monkeys.

MAU MAUNice Monkey.
I enjoyed your Biography. I needed a good laugh. Thank you.
Howdy GC,
Looks like we have at least two things in common -shooting monkeys and writing.
But once you´ve started shooting monkeys it´s a small step to baboons and that´s where the serious fun starts.
Cheers,
cewe

Kamo GariNice use of the tree. I'm surprised the legs are still attached to the top half.

nkonkaOk, my daughter is reading this thread over my shoulder as she is supposed to get somewhere for something terribly important, sees that photo and gasps. "What?" asks I.
"Is that monkey dead or just sleeping?"
"It's dead kiddo," i say, "all the way dead."
"Cool." says she. "when do i get to go with you and shoot a few."
Now I'm giggling.
15 July 2007, 04:13
kayakerDid you shoot any adults or just the little baby curious ones?
I used to shoot them when I was a kid, then lost the novelty. I did re-build one's skeleton for a project years ago, that was fun, especially cleaning the small bones.
Lately I just watch them and leave them alone, although the nuisance ones gets some rocks chasing their asses!

Aspen Hill AdventuresI truly dislike vervet monkeys, so much that I have renamed them as pervert monkeys. Please shoot many more!

dogcatMr. Young,
I have good news and bad news for you.
You are a very sick individual. You now are addicted to monkey shooting. As I am.
We shot about 20 vervets in the RSA with great delight and pleasure. As we corned one group in some trees - we told the PH to get out the umbrellas as it would be raining monkeys very soon. And it did.
Next we took our addiction to Zimbabwe and declared a holy war on baboons. See the hunt report on AR for the bloody details, but, just to let you know what you are in for - an uncontrollable urge to "swiss cheese" baboons with whatever weapon is at hand.
Our next trip will be partly focused on decreasing the worlds population of baboons.
You are very sick and need help - soon.
Go to Zim as soon as you can. Take a .243 and have some fun....

Be carefull what you wish for

My son Arno 8 and myself shot a few on our last trip. I would still like to know why they are always able to grab hold of a branch and not let go if not killed emediately.
Nothing beats the smell of a leadwood fire!!

Gayne C. YoungThanks for all the replies.
Yes, this monkey is rather small, but after many “diet†Castle beers he looked much bigger.
Truth be told I didn’t want to shoot him but he charged. My buddy ran in fright at the charge, my PH froze in fear; I was the only one with enough guts to stand firm. I hate to think what might have happened had I not.

One needs little exposure to the vervets to concur with that sentiment!
Good job Gayne!
I noticed many other animals share this dislike for vervets. Banded Mongoose seem to really have a grudge against them. Wish I could have filmed the chase I witnessed for 20 minutes. It was hilarious. And I admit to pulling for the mongoose.
