For quality there is nothing to touch the Nikon D1X. For convenience, the Canon Ixus 500. Most used was the Canon 1S IS - because it can Hi8 quality videos, and has a 10X optical zoom with an image stabilizer. I have just ordered the new Nikon D2X, which should be just the ticket for wildlife photos. This one has a 12 MB sensor, with a 1.5X multiplier. But, it can be downloaded to 6 MB, in which case it has a 2X multiplier. Which means my 80-400mm VR lense is going to effectively become 160-800mm.

How do you effectively carry a camera of that size (D2X) when hunting? I have two main cameras, a canon S410 and a canon digital rebel. When I'm travelling light such as when I'm hunting, I carry the S410 because it is small, lightweight, durable and fits in your pocket. I haven't really figured out how to carry my digital rebel effectively.

Rattlesnaker, I carry the Canon Ixus 500 in my pockets whwn we are walking. And I keep both the D1X and the 1S IS in the truck. When the truck is close by, I use one of these two. Those who stay in the truck use the D1X quite a bit, with a long zoom lense.

Great photos, it brought back all my good feelings for the selous experienced on my hunt last year. It seemed like I was taking more photos than necessary at the time, but when you go through them after the hunt even years later, you regret every one not taken. Okay, I'll bite. A lion in the grass? And a birdwatcher to boot. I am sold on the Nikon 16x50's for very good, but cheap binos. The 15x56 Swarovski's are great but too heavy to lug around, except in the truck! Have seen more different species of birds migrate through my neighborhood this year than ever. Maybe global warming? I consider the $60/month on bird seed well spent! ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Thanks for the very nice pictures. Talk about protective coloration! (Lion in the grass?) It's not satisfying to be on a "saving" year ... all the folks with great pictures and the high excitement of nearing departure dates makes it tough to be staying home ... sigh ... Saeed, Great pictures. I find that the pictures I enjoy the most after returning from Africa are those without anyONE in them. Just the flora and fauna. They always remind me of where I was and what I was doing at the time! Thanks for posting. It appears the data center in Atlanta where we host the Main AR site has a connectivity issue affecting most of Interland's (our ISP) customers. Until they resolve that, I'm afraid our site is offline. This is one reason why we decided last year to separate the main AR site from the forum host. Don

Saeed takes literall thousands of pictures, that year he took 7 full discs as I recall and I spent two weeks many hours a day just looking at all of them, and ditto for the year before last.. some that I relish are: 1. close ups of flys on dead Buffalo, I never realized how much color a fly had, they are absolutly beatiful.. 2. the many and varied flowers 3. the beauty of the birds is awesome 4. I am now an expert autopsy-ist, I have photos of all the insides or a dead buffalo and all his parts and bullet wounds through them, all in close up next to expanded bullets.. 5. Sunsets and fog preserved forever. 6 Every bug and animal track in the Selous And that only touches the surface. I could go on forever... Someday I will donate all these many thousands of photos to some good cause for educational purposes I suspect... Saeed and Walter let me into a world that I had been standing in for years and never saw what was going on around me...for that I am grateful. sometimes we miss the forrest for the trees...
