Now wait a minute. Don't get excited yet. This is not a porn post nor is it in the wrong thread. Has anyone else but me heard of wearing panty hose to prevent tick, skeeter etc bites? I know that is a concern in Africa. I got tick fever, and others here have contacted weird stuff from small critter bites. Had a friend who was in the military in one of the elite type groups. He told me that they wear panty hose when going into areas where biting critters are around. He claimed the critters can't bite through them. I tried them last year in Oklahoma. I didn't get bit. Only problem was when the wife found them in my baggage when I got home, it was hard to explain. I would, of course, not wear them if I was going to wear short pants while hunting. Good thing, I quit wearing short pants when I was 5 years old, so not a problem for me. Another problem might be when you had to pull your britches down around your ankles and squat to go "P". The PH and trackers might snicker and giggle a bit. Kidding aside, I think it's a good idea. Wonder if they make them in camo?

I have also heard that, don't know if it is true though.

apparently if you are prone to gettin a "sweat rash" on your inner thigh from your legs rubbing together after walking a lot, wearing a panty hose is the answer...... "...Them, they were Giants!" Bwanamich has it right. I wear them with the feet cut off when I'm fishing on the beach. They stop chafing(sp) from walking in wet clothes.

There is a product out there called Rhino cloth I believe it is, that is suposed to keep the criters out. Its a lot more manly as it comes in camo... I think Cabelas carries it. I think it was mainly desiged for guys who hunt in the south where there are lots of ticks... I know I wish I had it on a few times here in MD especially in the spring. Picking 50+ ticks off ya gets a little unnerving! My skin is crawling just thinking about it!

When I was in the Army some guys used this trick on road marches. I started using spandex bicycle shorts under my BDU's and they worked great. I started wearing them under my regular PT shorts on our runs, and I still wear them today when I go running. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. I can't quite get into the idea of panty hose (hate'm on women too!), but the thigh length bicycle or running shorts really do work to reduce friction on long treks. They're warm too. Spraying trousers with preventative insecticide seems to work for the ticks. At one point on the last trip the PH ended up with a bunch of ticks and I had none. If you are worried about ticks, I would highly suggest the rhino skin. You will not sweat in the warm weather and its comfortable and a bit more manly then panty hose. I have worn Rhino skin spring turkey hunting in some seriously bug infested areas and it has worked like a champ. Second the idea on the bicycle shorts under the clothes for long warm walks. Under Armor makes some great hiking biking underwear that does a great job. The danger of civilization, of course, is that you will piss away your life on nonsense

Some of our northern swimmers wear PHose as a preventative to box jellfish stings as well. Posts: 87 | Location: Victoria Australia | Registered: 07 September 2002

IF you can get by with it. Sprinkle a few drops of Diesel fuel around the pants cuff's. We used to do that when walking around the grass etc in texas for chiggers. I'd bet it would work with ticks and other bugs too. Better check it out with the game animals you're hunting though. Might be enough oder to spook them. You can also put kerosene rags around your ankles to prevent the dumb ass from creaping up on you. Especially good for Texas Aggies and Longhorns. Boomer Sooner sprig Rose lipped maidens--light foot lads!!!

I hate wearing panty hose here in the summer (and don't most of the time) and would not dream of it in Africa. Anybody who has worn pantyhose in the heat will understand that. I have been trying the Under Armour stuff the last couple of months and something alot of people don't realize is that they have cold gear and heat gear - blue numbers/labels are cold and red is for heat. Big difference in the two and they actually have alot of tactical and hunting stuff now. Give it a try!
