Seen a little of them, one of the south African operators who buys hunts in the Zambezi Valley on the Auction and sub contracts with some of the better zim outfits. They seem to deliver -

Mike: I know these folks personally and spent a lot of time with them. In fact, last year I was in SA and Zim about 3 months. Theo and Marita are 1st CLASS. You could not do better, I would trust my granddaughter in there care for safety, quality of hunt, and production of game. They absolutely "killed em'" in the Matetsi units last year! If you want of need more info let me know.

I thought Spear Safaris was based in South Africa and run by Ernest Dyason. If that is the outfit you are referring to, when I was in South Africa in 2001, I hunted with Ernest one day. My PH had to attend to another matter and arranged for me to hunt with Ernest (my PH's brother-in-law). We were hunting wildebeest and were successful. Ernest seemed to be knowledgable and was very personable. I had a good time the day I spent with him.

Mike: I meant Ernest....not Theo. Thanks for the correction, my brain was dead at that moment. They are based in South Africa, but still hunt quite a bit in Zim.

Hi Wintershoek, just `ut of interest, did you hunt at Wintershoek in the Northern Cape? If you did, when did you hunt there and who was your PH?

Riaan: Yes, I have hunted out of the Wintershoek lodge on a couple of occasions. Hunted with ph Johnny Vivier, and with Nico Smith who is the resident 'game manager', ph. All those people are class acts. Johnny will be at my house following the SCI meeting in Reno later this month.

There is a story on page 134 of the latest (January - February) Safari magazine about a hunt with Ernest Dyason of Spear safaris.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.
