Patricio GaudianoAdvice on first safari
Hi, I would like some advice from the forum, I will be in europe sailing on the first week of august, and figured that If I am allready half way across the world, I might as well make the most of it.
what would you guys recomend for a first safari for this year in the august time frame, I know its a bit late to be looking , but I figure someone might have good might have some good openings or a last minute deal. I am available after the 8th of august for as many days as necessary so without going crazy with expenses, what would be everyones advice, or does anyone have a great offer I just cant refuse??? I can be gone until the 28th of august because I am going to canada bird hunting on sept 1....

L. David KeithNever too late to look at Africa. When one area is winding down, another is just beginning. Plains game or dangerous game?

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

CharlesLMy advice is don't go. The whole "trip of a lifetime" thing is a big lie. It's addictive and you will be ruined for life.

Milo ShanghaiToo true. Don't go unless you are prepared to take on a demanding mistress.
Patricio,
If no dangerous game are on the radar, Namibia would be my choice for a first safari. Great trophy quality, good prices, good acommodations and great hunting...

RyanBMy friends talked me into going to Namibia. 13 animals on the list, I want them all. This October.
I'm under no illusions about this trip of a lifetime business. At my age, I will be back a lot...

butchlocaugust is one of my favorite times. check the outfitter forums - there should be some real specials available

Russ GouldFrom Europe, your best bet is Namibia flying Lufthansa from Frankfurt. Believe me, this is your best option from almost every angle. You avoid JNB, shorter flying time, no overnights en route, no problem with permits, value for money, etc etc.
Now the problem you are going to have to deal with is a firearm. Not sure where you are going in Europe but it's not easy to hang around in most countries in Europe while toting a rifle and ammo. Most recently, most European airlines are refusing ammo in checked bags (other than Lufthansa). I suggest you just rent a rifle from your outfitter.

Patricio GaudianoNever said it was the trip of a lifetime... Its just the first trip because I can finally afford to go and travel like I like to, fathers not a hunter so its hard to get him to foot a safari...... I apreciate the advice and will pm a few of the outfitters and agents here. I think plains game this time around, or might go dg if I find the right deal... Definitively plan on renting a firearm as I dont think I can go sailing around the mediterranean with one hahaha
Allready have lufthansa and a layover in frankfurt coming back from croacia, so will just fly from there to namibia......

StonecreekLufthansa flies to Windhoek from Frankfurt? I thought only Air Namibia did that.
