Hi just want to pick all your brains out there. I am about to book a buffalo. I do not collect trophies and exjoy the hunting exeprience very much. Just wondering if is it true that Female cape buffalo are more aggressive in behaviour and more often they charge? Female buffalo horns are usually wider than their male couterpart without the boss? Any other difference you kind folks would like to share? thanks in advance

I dont know if the females are more aggressive but of course the hunt is the same. Like the emotion. The bull is absolutey more beautiful but even the cow can be nice http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e359/marionobili/matetsi/buffalocow.jpg In my opinion for the first buffalo hunt is good book a bull and a cow that is cheaper so you will have the double emotion in the same hunt. mario

On buffalo, a bull or a cow basically give you a different hunt. Cows are (almost) always found with the herd. Interesting bulls are regularly, but not exclusively, found in small groups of bulls. Hunting into a herd for any cow is not hugely challenging. Should a big bull be with a herd, getting a shot at him can be an amazing experience. On the other hand, finding an old bull in a group of four to six "dugga (mud)" boys is usually high adrenalin. If you hunt buffalo, hunt the bull unless you can afford, or your package offers you, a cow as well. This is especially the case if your trophy is a photograph and your memories. Regards

I agree with both Tim Carney and Mario. A bull hunt where you look for bachelor groups of bulls, dugga boys, and then for a nice old bull with a small group is great fun, and to me more fun than hunting for the big bull in the herd. But hunting an old cow in a herd can be fun and challenging, especially if you select one particularly old cow and concentrate on her. Not as difficult as hunting a particular bull in a herd, but great fun and good challenge. Mario has it right though, go for a bull and a cow and then you can enjoy two buff hunts at 1.25 or so the cost of two bulls. BTW, I note no difference in agressiveness or attitude between bull and cow buff, unlike eles where the cows are much more agressive, on average. JPK Free 500grains

I don't find any difference. You find tracks you follow them and you shoot. I find Buffalo hunting to be among my more boring hunts in Africa. Impala is more pleasure for me than buffalo. You probably gather from this that I don't really hunt Buffalo. You would be right. They are my least desirable of African game. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS
