It is still not to late to come to DC for the May 8 lobby day. Call SCI at 202-543-8733 & the will still register you. Ken DRSS, PP Chapter Life NRA Life SCI Life DSC

To the top. What sort of surprises me (and sort of doesn't surprise me at the same time) is the lack of outfitters and booking agents participating in this session in DC. They show up to book these hunts, to advertise elephant hunts, to take deposits, to send people over, to exhibit at the SCI shows, why is there not more interest in and participation by outfitters and booking agents? At this point I can only recall Greg Brownlee and Jeff Neal saying they were going to try to go. Mike

+1 Is there a dinner or something on Wednesday night ? I may be around the dc area but Thursday I have to be in Richmond for some work stuff. The SCI and DSC need to learn from the NRA - become a single purpose hunters right organization. the nra is not a trade organization, not a social organization, does not focus on member achievement but on its main goal - gun rights and it will fight gun manufactures just as hard as senator schumer Sadly hunting groups are marketing organization focused to create a nice convention in which vendors sell their wares and services. In talking to another attendee today, I learned that John Barth with Adventure Unlimited has made arrangements to attend. Kudos to John. Mike

My personal opinion (from experience) is that Congress hates what they call "the nametag groups" that wander around as a group clogging up the halls. I work daily with a bunch of former hill staffers and lobbyists and they all advise their clients or employers that this is the least effective activity possible. When a group shows, the individual member trots out to give a few perfunctory remarks and tries to get the hell out of there without saying anything controversial or addressing the issue (we've already experienced plenty of this with the wildlife trafficking form letters from our members that hunt!). In short, this is a waste of time and money and it is just used by trade associations to make the membership think that the group is doing something useful. I've been advised that these rallies are counter-productive. If SCI wanted to be effective, it would find an avenue with Committee chairs that control USFWS funding and ask them to make a phone call to USFWS Director Dan Ashe asking for an explanation of this ban and what is needed to reverse it! I hunt to live and live to hunt!

Hunt99, There is no more effective means of lobbying than a lobbyist. Just ask a lobbyist. The good news is you don't have to waste your time with the rest of us losers. Jeff

Actually, a lobbiest is definitely going to be the most effective. Why, because a good lobbiest is going to be arranging fund raisers for those members of Congress, on either side of the isle, who can be convinced one way or the other to support our cause. I get a first hand view of this since one of my very best friends is a very, very successful lobbiest and several more are also very good, though not to his standards. You would be surprised if I were to list some of the successful efforts, of my friend, and how they came about - legally, but surely not as the Founders could possibly have intended.
