What is so "amazing" about those prices?

Like everything else, there are hunting safaris and then there are HUNTING SAFARIS.

One can go in "style" or just go and hope for the best!

I have dined for $5 and for $200 and inevitably, the $200 steak tasted better

The top 3-4 Tz outfitters had a bumper season this year and 90% of the clients were from the good ol' US of A.

$39,000 to $50,000 for a desert bighorn is on the lower side of price range I have seen (not that I would jump at the opportunity to pay $39,000). I believe old Mexico is the only place you can hunt desert bighorn without being drawn for a tag and the prices I have seen quoted run from $50,000 to $75,000.

I think the $1 rich thick rare steaks I kill and butcher myself would be far tastier.

And leave $199 for several bottles of excellent red wine.

All I can say is that those prices are sobering.....and Tanzania is just out of sight!

As I fast approach my "middle thirties" unless I make a DRASTIC career change and soon I will never be able to take those month long hunts in East Africa which have been a dream since my teens....

I guess software engineer was a real poor career choice.

Dave

Incidentally my price for a 21 day 1x1 safari in the Selous or Masailand (inclusive of charters, permits, licences dip & pack etc) is US$18980 less than that quoted above. If you want to split the hunt between the two areas then you just pay the additional charter fee.

2x1 prices are considerably better!! plug plug!!

Steve,

That is a very good price! I would have jumped and booked a hunt with you if only I knew you were offering such a good deal!

How come your site shows that same hunt for $43400 ($44450 if including elephant hunt)?

E-mail me an offer (for 2x1/4x2) with all the details and we may do business.

DavidC:

I made my first hunt to Africa when I was im my mid-30s, back in 95. I paid about 9k total. It was a lot of money for me back then (I only made about 60K/year), but I drove an old Bronco well beyond its years. After that hunt, I decided to start investing money in the market; I figured once I had 100k saved, I could do a plains game hunt every other year with the profits.

Well, to make a long story short, I saved the 100K, but lots of things happened in the interim. I rode the internet boom wave. I made a lot more hunts, and saw that most people making those hunts were self-employed.

I am now in the software field; there are plenty of was to start your own business in this area, at a very small capital cost. I started mine with only a $1800 laptop.

If you are thinking about starting your own business, I would encourage you to do so. But in the beginning, you may not have much time for hunting...

Unless I'm mistaken, Steve didn't state that his hunt price was $18,980.

He said "...US$18980 less than< !--color--> that quoted above."

Just trying to help....

Our Tanzania 21 day hunts are: 1x1 $33,990 and 2x1 are $30,990 and that encludes everything but trophy fees, $200 per gun Gov. permits, and tips that are optional....no other costs except you pay the shipping on the trophies when they arrive..We do the dip, crate and ship........If a 21 day requires an additional charter, you pay....

We try to keep life simple...You may get a better price, but someone has to short you somewhere to get there....we won't sacrifice quality for a cheaper hunt.....

If Robin Hurt, TGT and others can get those prices, then more power to them, they made their bones a long time ago, and got there by producing a quality hunt.....I just hope that someday Pierre and I can charge the same, we certainly are trying.

I wonder if part of the reason for the price of the premium hunts is that key species such as LION and LEOPARD and ELEPHANT and 45" BUFFALO are almost a sure thing, while on the less expensive hunts, perhaps it is primarily a buffalo hunt with the chance of lion, leopard and elephant being substantially reduced?

What do you guys think?

Ray,

We both agree on not sacrificing quality for price. There's always someone who will try to undercut the competition, but as we both know that only results in disappointed clients.

If people think these hunts are expensive, just wait a few years until they start hunting the Giant Sable that have been recently found in Angola.......my bet would be around US$300,000 + (at today's prices).......but you can bet your life they'll be a few hunters who want and can afford the hunt.

AnotherAZWriter,

Funny you should mention being self-employed!!!

I have been looking REAL hard at my options for doing just that. Playing the role of employee just doesn't suit me on WAY to many levels. The trick is to find my niche then transition as seamlessly as possible from employee to employer. I don't mind the heavy workload or long hours but, with one little girl and another on the way I don't want to disrupt my family life to terribly. It is turning out to be a longer process than I hoped..... With luck sometime in 2005......

Regards,
Dave
