Harry,
Thanks for the info. 30ott6 and I are coming for the first time instead of Reno. Can you recommend three so I can check rates? Close is good.

Thanks,
Scott

Here is a listing I have in my files for hotels for you that are coming to the Dallas Safari Club Convention which is at Dallas Market Hall on Stemmons Freeway. This will give you time to find a room that fits your hip pocket before they get filled up.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at booth 229 (corner booth) Hunters Headquarters!

Market Center is the exhibit hall where the DSC show is held. It is adjacent to a major freeway and just northwest of downtown. The immediate area is in a freeway/industrial area. So there is generally nothing in walking distance from the area hotels. The only hotel within close walking distance is the Renaissance Dallas Hotel (which is just across the parking lot from Market Center).

There are three major restaurant areas in the near vicinity. Restaurant Row which is just north on the freeway (a collection of several restaurants all next to each other). The West End (a renovated warehouse district) which is on the west end of downtown. It is a touristy spot with numerous restaurants and bars (watch for pick pockets). It is quite lively with a lot of pedestrian traffic as the parking is on the outer perimeter of the West End. And the third area is Deep Ellum which is east of downtown (the major street in this area is Elm Street -- "Ellum" is a corruption of "Elm"). It has several bars, restaurants and tatoo parlors. It is more funky and eclectic, but getting more mainstream all the time.

Best Tex Mex is at Mi Cocina (several locations) best upscale casual is Houston's (always busy - call to put your name on the list - I don't think they take reservations). The nearest Houston's is at 8300 Preston Road (Preston Road and Northwest Highway).

Dinner reservations are a must (especially weekends) at all restaurants (the ones that accept reservations, at the others, expect a wait on weekends unless you eat at non-peak times).

Regards,

Terry

P.S.

Regarding the hotel map, I would not recommend the two hotels on Harry Hines Blvd. (Days Inn or the Hotel Dallas Mockingbird).
