America warns Africa travel

I just heard that America is going to issue a warning about travel to ALL of Africa. Also, that getting back into the USA after traveling in Africa will be difficult. If this is true, better plan on a long dry spell when clearing customs, immigration, etc. Space your return flight out.

If the State Dept. issues a travel warning, what do you think will happen to safaris?

Well, right now there is no warning even to Siera Lione only to Liberia due to Ebola.

http://travel.state.gov/conten.../alertswarnings.html

I also seriously doubt they would issue warnings for Southern Africa or UAE for Ebola.

Posting that kind of nonsense is not helpful to anyone. If you were to post where and from whom you heard such, that might justify your post. It would be very easy to check the veracity of such information prior to making a post. Africa is a huge continent with vast distances between the compass points. This is what's known as "spreading FUD" and serves no useful purpose.

Tanks provides a simple way to check such foolishness. BTW, "America" is not a country and can issue nothing; perhaps you meant to say the U.S.?

Mike,
I bet there is some basis in fact here. Perhaps a travel hiatus to and from some West African countries?

The CDC, I'm certain you've heard has stated;
"Ebola making its way to the US is inevitable"

That's not from me but from the CDC.

Steve -

The OP states "...ALL of Africa.", not simply the West African countries currently involved in the ebola virus outbreak.

The fact is there is no reliable way to contain a pandemic by issuing travel warnings, which are, by definition, warnings only. But this is a different discussion from what the OP states.

FACT:
1. Currently there is a travel warning issued by the U.S. State Department for Liberia only.

2. CDC currently urges U.S. residents to avoid travel to Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone due to the Ebola outbreak.

Just the facts.

An informed individual does not need the government to tell him what to avoid.

Our government has a very good system, it works as long as you are using your home cell phone.

As soon as we arrive in any foreign country, and turn the phone on, we get an message welcoming us to that country, and giving us the phone number of our embassy should we require any assistance.
