Tom,
All the best of luck to you and your wife. Prayers sent.
I have no doubt that your outfitter will accommodate you on your requests, whether it is a postponement or full on cancellation.
Take Care,

Not to hijack the thread though it can be tough for the operator regards cancelled hunts-an example a fellow has booked a 16 day leopard buff hunt with us starting in a few months time. The camp has been allocated/ PH given his days and now the client has cancelled as he says that a unexpected payment came up for him. Normally we would return his deposit ( against what our contract says) as we normally have a waiting list for leopard- However this year is not a good year with Dallas been the a very slow show with the oil prices which have affected our Canadian and Russian markets also and as a result we may be stuck with that leopard. We offered to roll his deposit to 2016 but he is extremely unhappy with us and feels that we have treated him unfairly! We still hope to sell the leopards in Vegas in which case we will return his deposit otherwise we will stick to our guns regarding rolling his deposit to 2016!
Buzz:
IMO (which is not Much), you are handling the situation perfectly.
Tom:
Above all else, I do wish your wife a speedy recovery!

Aaron NeilsonMr. Ferry - As others have stated, simply talk to the outfitter about your situation.
Jan Dumon (who posts here now) and I had a recent leopard hunting client booked. He himself was diagnosed with cancer, and he kindly asked for a refund - both hunt deposit/commission was refunded. I honestly believe he will rebook with us if his health allows, but refunding him was the right thing to do.
The only time when issues like this can get sticky IMO is if it happens really close to the hunt dates, but even then - if its a legit reason like this, most folks will work with you somehow.
Good luck!!!

Haha, that made me laugh!! I remember him being about the same way on another forum when this happened.
Tom, I wish you and your family the best and I'm sure this will be worked out.

In the last month we found out my wife had breast cancer. I have a 21 day Tanzania hunt booked for this summer. I don't feel I can go this summer but may be able to next year. Is it fair to ask the outfitter to hold my deposit and apply it to a hunt next year or should I just tell him I will forfet it? I have hunted on his area twice before but not with the owner but a ph.
Tom,
That diagnosis is a game changer in so many ways, some of which you have not yet likely realized. I am going to PM you some contact info if you wish to utilize it. To type everything I'd like to say would just take too long and to say it via phone may convey more meaning.
Joyce and I had a similar situation occur last year. We were supposed to hunt his & her Leopards in Mozambique's Niassa Reserve until Joyce's body decided to develop cancer that destroyed one of her vertebrae.
The PH, Derek Littleton and booking agent Greg Brownlee, both immediately told us not to worry about the hunt or deposit. We chose to roll that hunt into 2015, thus giving Joyce even more to look forward to on the other side of her battle throughout her treatments. Derek actually, like many on AR, Facebook, and elsewhere became a fervent cheerleader during Joyce's recovery. That Leopard hunt is not far off now and most all of Joyce's strength is back.
Bottomline, talk to the outfitter. There is not a living soul that has not been touched by cancer in some way. Stay strong and tell your wife something that Aaron Neilson told mine..... "Put your foot on it's throat and don't let it up, don't ever let it up". You both can do this!!
Thoughts and Prayers,
Jim & Joyce

Go for it if you feel you can make the hunt in 2016 - having been down that same road but a different street, I reckon our friend will be more receptive to your proposition.

tom ferryI want to thank Game Frontiers Of Tanzania and Taki Lalji for acting in very sincere and professional manner in this situation. They agreed to postpone the hunt and were very caring. If any of you who are at SCI have a chance drop by and thank them for me.
