I am planning on going to RSA around next July for my first safari. I am looking for recommendations for outfitters in the region. Limcroma is who I am planning to schedule a trip with but before I do I want to see if anyone else can make other recommendations. I am planning on hunting plains game but would also be interested in possibly a Croc if the opportunity presented itself.

You can read my report on Infinito Safaris on African Reports and see my trophy pictures. I can unreservedly recommend Charl and many others here agree.

Go to Blaauwkrantz. Amazing. Check out my hunt report Blaauwkrantz 2011 on page 2 of the hunt report.

Before you pull the trigger on RSA, (pun intended) consider any of the several very fine outfits in the central highlands of Namibia.

For one thing, Namibia is easier to get into and out of with guns. You can get there though Europe with a layover in a place like Frankfurt that adds much to the experience, and arrive after only a 10 hour flight vs a 16 hour flight ---and only one time zone off.

Leaving is a breeze, again, with almost no issues regarding guns. The airport is far, far easier to negotiate than JoBerg.

Windhoek is by far a much safer city than JoBerg, and I've found it to be American friendly, with many good restaurants, guest houses and hotels.

In general, the hunts and trophy fees are comparible to anything in RSA.

RSA offers some species you can't get in Namibia, but if you're looking for an easy, first time general bag PG hunt, Namibia, is the place to go in my opinion. I'm sure others will disagree, and I respect that, but after hunting both places, Namibia has my vote.

I've used two different outfitters and hunted three different camps in three trips to Namibia. PM me if you'd like a reference.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Like LittleJoe, I can strongly recommend Blaauwkrantz. I just did my first trip overseas, and went with them. Hunting with my Dad and brother made it even better. As for Jo'burg airport, simply contact Afton House, and they will help you through it, including paperwork and interaction with SA Police, and accommodate / feed you very well indeed. Can't wait to go back!

I suggest you read some of the Hunt Reports On The African Hunt Report Forum.

You will have lots of enjoyment, as well as get a feel for the different outfitters and PH who have conducted these hunts.

TWL,

NO...WRONG STATEMENT AND ADVISE....

'I wouldn't say that i had any problems getting clearance on rifles from OR Thambo in the past'; but if your clients paperwork and outfitters devotion is correct NO problems should occur (last 15 clients was cleared in 10-45min), that is my finding...and by the way i think Joberg is American friendly...and all cities have their sh*t...

Rich - I hunt in the bush not in cities, so you should be safe with me...

If your looking for a hunt unlike the normal high fence ranches, take a look at Crusader Safaris. Robin and I just got back and had an exceptional time. They are in South Africa and cater to the hunter looking for a true free range experience. They have 3 camps in Natal, Stormberg Mountains and the Eastern Cape Bavaarian River. Check out their web site.

I can not answer that question because I have never hunted with Limcroma, but I can tell you that the wife and I have very much enjoyed our hunts and park tour with Pieter Kriel. You can find my hunt reports in the hunting reports forum.

I recommend figuring out what animals that you want to hunt first, that would determine where you should hunt.

I have a pretty good idea of what I would like to take. I am really only interested in going after animals that will score at least silver with SCI.

List:
Blesbok, Blue Wildebeest, Bushpig, Kudu, Impala, Giraffe, Gemsbok, Red Hartebeest, Warthog, Zebra, and Springbuck.

Not saying that I have to shoot all of the above but I would be interested in taking one of each.

I dont have much African experience compared to most who post here, but I would reccommend leaving the tape measure at home on your first safari. You'll have more fun.

30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.
