The latest issue of Rifle Shooter mag has an article about Granite Mountain Rifles. It doesn't give any prices but it looks like something in the 5 figure ballpark. Anybody know? Anybody got one? If someone does, please no flames just because someone bought an expensive rifle. "D"

Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

I've seen and handled them at SCI. I don't have a current price list. The quality and workmanship is first-rate, and Joseph Smithson, who does the stockwork, is one of the world's greatest up-and-coming, young custom riflemakers -- and like D'Arcy Echols and Gene Simillion -- graduated from Colorado School of Trades and apprenticed under Jerry Fisher. So the pedigree of these rifles is fundamentally fabulous.

Don't be surprised if the price is between $10-20K and possible more. Worth it? You bet, but I'd make sure that any rifle they send your way is properly broken-in, and thoroughly tested for accuracy and function..........

I have 8 GMA rifles, three were built by Joe Smithson .275 Rigby, .404 Jeffries, .416 Rigby, three by Ryan Breeding .375, .416 Rigby, .505 Gibbs, and two I purchased already built from Mike Roden(owner of GMA).460 Wby, .585 GMA.

These actions and rifles are extremly accurate and reliable. They also handle and look better than any other rifles I owned. I have hunted extensivly with most of them. Mikes website is http://www.granitemountainarms.com

I handled afew at SCI. Nice rigs.
Your typically talking around $10-12K(express sights, custom QD rings) and up. More for a takedown (about $2500). I liked the design of the Qd system, but not for a true DG rifle. They are a bit finicky, but Would use those mounts for a 300H&H plains rifle.

After I saw the article, I called them and stopped by to see the shop (about 3 weeks ago.)

It was amazing

He showed me some barrels and a finished action(505 Gibbs).

I was quoted $3000 for an action (in the white) and $4500 for a barreled action.

I saw AR member Dak 4506 (hope the ID is right)'s 600 OK built on a GMA action by AHR at Lodi and it was an absolutely beautiful rifle. The action was very, very smooth to operate and the overall quality definitely seemed to be of a "Rolls Royce" class.

Last fall I had the pleasure of wringing out a dozen of them. I can't imagine a better rifle for a serious user. If I had an extra $3000 I would buy one of the actions and display it as a work of art.

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

Russell Menard is building a 585 Nyati on a left-hand Granite Mountain action.

He likes the Granite Mountain action and has used it a lot.
