Burchell's zebra, the first taken at Felseneck:

For those that come after me, be aware of a couple of problems I ran into:
1. Although the Namibian dollar is pegged to the SA Rand, the people in the smoking lounge at Jo'berg airport don't accept these at face value! I was given 17 RA for a $20 (NA) bill.
2. When leaving Windhoek, I decided to claim the VAT I had spent on souveniers. Christine the PH's wife had suggested that I might want to do that. Well, first, you have to have customs stamp the receipt before you enter the departure lounge. Not a big deal as they let me go back out again. Then I went to the clearly marked place to get my refund. That is when the fun began. It started with the very friendly guy asking me if I had any other foreign currency. I said "yes" as I had some US dollars on me. He then asked if he could have some for his collection! I refused, and guess what, his computer started acting up. He was getting the familiar "blue screen". He started hitting the function keys when I told him that the only way out was to reboot using Ctrl/Alt/Delete. He told me that he was going to try that next. Well to cut a long story short, I did get my refund check, but I can't help but wonder if I would have had these problems if I had added to his "collection". Needless to say, my check was for less than my VAT amount, as there was a "fee" associated with check issuance. He told me I could have the check cashed down the hall, so, I went there as I figured the check would not do me much good and I could use the cash in the duty free shop. Guess what, another fee associated with cashing the check that I had just received! So, started with a VAT bill of $195 (NA) I received cash for $140 (NA) after fees!
There was a thread related to binoculars. Both the PH and the tracker use 10X binos. The PH had a pair that so impressed me that I bought some when I got home. They were Canon 10x30 IS (Image Stabilizers). These things are wonderful. Very bright even in low light conditions!
