Ok yes, I have been very inactive these last couple of months reason being is that I'm been working my butt off to sustain my family and myself.

Urdubob and Gatogordo firstly my sincere apologies for the F$%^-up I made as a booking agent with not enough experience and backup. Unfortunately I trusted Herman Pretorius the suppose to be great outfitter who's grandfather was suppose to own land in the Klaserie where the hunt would have been conducted.

There was my first mistake, not taking the time and actually check if there was property owned in their family and his grandfathers name.
Alf who also post plenty on AR made a comment that should have made me weary saing that there isn't any such big piece of property in the Klaserie owned privately by one person. On telling this to Herman I was told that there was several investors owning each a piece ???

Like Urdubod said on the week they had to arrive for the hunt I get a phone call from Herman saying that the hunt cannot be conducted as his grandfather is seriously ill in a coma and all is assests his being frozen. So Herman put together this plainsgame package that sounded good but turned up to be bad. This again my fault for not making sure of the outfitter and his credentials. The first night of the hunt we spent next to the ocean hunting for eland we were almost succesfull but had to leave for the next concession which took 5 hours by car. The next place Timbila was more properly setup for foreign clients and I'm sure that if we would have stayed there for the duration of the rest of the hunt as they had the rest of the species needed everything would have been fine . After that we were off to Beaufort West where we were to hunt blesbuck, springbuck and black wildebeest. This is were the shit hit the fan we stayed in an old farmhouse that was good enough quality to stay for local hunters but not foreign clients we had no laundry service, no cleaning people no cook as it was self catered. It was May and very cold and I slept cold and I'm sure Urdubob did to.

To many promises were made from my behalf because I trusted Herman. Herman being some ex special forces went to Iraq this year in January and that is when is time ended were they were overpowered and he was gunned down. He was the 11th South African to die in Iraq.

When I'm not working at the restaurant I help CChunter out on the hunting videos. I basically don't book hunts anymore and that is why my website hasn't been updated in a long while. People that do come to me for hunting info I pass directly to reputed outfitters. I haven't booked a hunt in two years time the last one was in conjunction with Aspen Hill.

What I've learned from this is that anybody can become a booking agent but not everybody as the required backup Financialy to fix things when they go wrong. I was one of those and learned the hard way not to trust anybody just because a friend introduced you to someone. I should have sniffed dirt when all the small things didn't add up but was to exited to actually been going on a buffalo hunt for the experience. (as an observer) Booking for big game should only be done by the big dogs.

Again Urdubob and Gatogordo I'm very sorry for what has happened. Basically I ended up being part of a fly by night outfit because of my own stupidity. And I ended up losing a very good friend and face.

It looks like a sad situation for Herman Pretorious' family:
News Story

But it looks like the Recces are not claiming him as one of their own. His name is listed here:

Have you made things right with Urdubob and Gatogordo?

Safari,
Sh*t happens, sometimes to nobodies fault.Previous arrangements despite best intentions have to be changed.
Hunters have to rely on some person that investigates the specifics and keeps an eye out that everything runs as presented - or if not, comes to some agreement with the clients.
That would be an honest relationship, destined to become successful.
You bellied up to what you saw now.Without going into the details one can see that the situation became difficult.
The fact that you are man enough to come out in public is recommendable and should be noticed.

Compare that behavior with my own report, where an agent choses to deflect and distort. You have insight and I wish you success.

I agree with George.

Making it right is often the best form of an apology. You're half-way there thumb

Sir, I sincerely hope that you know for certain that these two links refer to the same person, and that you have some evidence to prove it.

Safari-Hunt, et al:

While I was naturally disappointed when the Cape Buffalo hunt was canceled at the last minute, I was the luckier of the pair, smelled a rat,and took the refund. I rescheduled and later hunted with another PH in RSA and had a great time and some excellent hunting, combining both bird hunting and some big game. To anyone who has the time or inclination, the "rockies" (rock pigeons) can offer some of the most challenging shooting in the world. Highly recommended if you're a shotgun shooter.

At any rate, stuff happens, and as far as I am concerned, I was not really damaged. I completely accept your apology (which are never easy to offer, especially in an open forum)and hope you can go on to build a successful career in hunting.

I don't want to speak for him, but Urdubob had/has more problems as a result of the last minute switch including some trophy handling IIRC.

Marterius:

There is very little doubt in my mind that they are the same person.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I have no first hand knowledge of Herman Pretorious, and can't vouch for the veracity of the links I posted. The one most in doubt would the wall of shame where little more than a common name is identified. I should have made it clear that I do not know that the Herman Pretorious listed on the Recce site is the same one in question and perhaps is not even relevent at this point. My apologies to anyone having taken offense.

Edit: This news story identifies Herman Pretorious as an ex-Recce: Story
Perhaps the man listed on the Recce site is another man with the same name who is trading on Pretorious' reputation.

I noticed that the "Herman Pretorius" on the wall of shame was from Pretoria, not George as listed in the news articles.

Herman was a fraud and could be a Jerk. He thoght it was fun to shoot right after the client shot.... the Ph vallie stoped him from doing that again.

Fredrick all you say is correct: I just wish to get a few more things off my chest:

1) I sent the refund to gatogordo.... With the understanding that this was a temporary problem...the buff hunt would be conducted at a later date...after I return from the trip it became clear this would not happen.

2) we spent most of the hunt driving around south africa. (over 50% of the time driving from farm to farm or staying at some friends guest house)

3) Why did you not help me with the Taxidermist
Vallie or herman or the taxidermist ended up with my bull Gemsbuck horns...I went from a 38.5, to 31 inches.....Hell the cores don't even fit my skull.( edit)

4) yes, the place in the karoo was dump.
(one hell of a bad dream)

5)(could you help me out with a few things from the states)

6)(special deal.....ya right!)

As I responded to CChunter I hoped you would do well and make this right someday.

I still think you are basicly a good fellow.

Think how much better you would feel if you could make this right.

Sometimes an appology is not enough. I have some damages that need to be addressed.

Respectfully,

Ududbob

This is the Same Herman P.. He had two small Girls and a wife as well as a gun shop in George. I am sorry for his family.

The man was mentally unstable. Repectfully he needed to be medicated. I am not shure if it was Post truamatic stress, Bi Polar or brain damage to the shot from the AK-47 to his head.

I felt uneasy with him around.

This is a fact I quitly told Safari-hunt...I was afraid Herman would go nuts.

Long rambling stories with no point, Kind of scary. Lots of stories about killing people and tourture in the bush wars. Things like that.

I don't know if this was an act to keep me quite or if in fact the guy was nuts.

I was happy to get home.

They are the same Man ....I did not know herman befor he was shot...I bet this was the cause of his strange behavior.

Once again, you prove you don't know shit from shinola. I don't know what your problem is, but you are probably on some wall of shame somewhere or should be.

Ok, It went better than what I thought I stuck out my head on target and it actually came out clean. (meaning I'm not dead or shot on the net)

Urdudbob, you can ask a lot of people who knows we well including CChunter if I could at the moment or in the future make it up to you I will. It might sound strange but you are always in the back of my mind if for instance I could bump into a something that would make it up for you. But also I was afraid what youre responce would be as well but looks like I can actually talk to you again. clap

As for the taxidermist I did help out otherwise you would have never gotten your trophies I'm sorry about your gemsbuck trophy as it was a very good one. (Herman wasn't very big on paperwork and I forced him to finish the paperwork before he left for Iraq. )

Gatogordo I'm glad that things worked out for you and I'm gratefull for your sincerity.
