Due to the political situation in Zimbabwe and the probability of it only gettin worse I was curious what the AR group felt about making deposits for future hunts. I am interested in booking a future lion hunt but am nervous about having $10K tied up and possibly lost as a result of a Mugabe whim. I know booking agents offer some protection but in reality they are only a lawyers visit away from bankruptcy as well. With lion hunts usually 2 years away I don't know what can be done to offer hunt protection. I know there are domestic insurance programs that cover health and family need issues but I didn't know if there was any protection for the risk Zim poses.

For a big ticket item like this, I would recomend using a booking agent. Find one that has been in the business for a long time and has a good reputation. You will always have some risk however you can minamize things greatly. Chances of problems may be less in other countries but expect the cost to be much higher. ****************************************************************** R. Lee Ermey: "The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle." ****************************************************************** We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! I would also recommend an established, reputable booking agent and there are sevral that I worked with on these forums that you can work with and trust. There is no 100% foolproof quarantees but at least they live in the US and subject to US laws. Much easier than dealing with a third world judicial system for sure if something unfortunate did happen.

The really good outfitters I've been associated with usually have US bank accounts that they hold the deposits in. Last month when I was ele hunting with Jumbo Moore, Jumbo, Clive Hallamore, & barry styles & me had quite a coversation about lion hunting In zim. It generally agreed that it will reopen in a year or two in matesi, but the price tags look like they will be in the 40-45,000 range. all 3 thought that if you want one you need a deposit quickly, (clive already had 2) but that you shouldn't need $10,000. I believe that 3 will hold you a spot, at least until they know more about what is really going to happen.

Dumb question, but have you looked into the availability of trip cancellation insurance? THE LUCKIEST HUNTER ALIVE!

I don't think insolvency is covered by travel insurance.
