jcarr is guilty of a feeble attempt at humor. His "crime" is the feebleness of that attempt, but I thought it was pretty clear that it was only that.

I well recall that one of the things that drove Jack O'Connor nuts was when people misspelled his name. "O'Conner" was the most common, and he really went berserk over that. I will answer to most anything--but if somebody wants to give me shit, then my name really should be spelled correctly! But, clearly, these fine "journalists" who went into a frenzy to gather the truth not only couldn't spell my name, but also apparently wouldn't know "truth" if it slapped them in the face. This is exactly why we put the true story out, and we did it in this forum first. Part of that true story is that I was 1,000 miles away in the Zambezi Valley. I seriously doubt if things would have happened differently if I'd been there, but in fact I was not, although I wish I had been there. My only involvement in this, which is fairly complete involvement, is that Brittany is my daughter and the outfitter and PH are my friends, so I'm doing what I can to help. I'm a little too close to this to make jokes--but I do understand the urge, no offense taken here!

Brittany did shoot at the leopard while it was on top of Punki--but whoever said it above said it correctly. She was obscured behind her PH, who is a foot taller than her, not to mention the grass. She knew the leopard had charged (guys, you can HEAR that--the sound effects are the most frightening part of a leopard charge). She knew her PH had fired. She did not know Punki was under the leopard, and in the long grass he was invisible. In accordance with her instructions, she stood her ground, stepped around him, and fired at spotted hide. Monday-morning quarterbacking suggests her PH might have told her not to shoot--but the whole thing took something less than 3 seconds, and very few of us realize the difference in perspective caused by several inches difference in height. So please let's give this a rest. It happened. It was an unintentional mishap (since "accident" is over-used). Punki is doing okay, considering--but with infection, not as good as was reported to me, and thus not as good as I initially reported to you. His life is not in danger, and he will be okay in time. So will Brittany. Right now my primary focus is helping her figure out how she, me, and the outfitter can handle the medical bills. It will take some work, but I'm not really upset about that, because without really good care Punki might not have made it.
Regards, Craig

Yea, I concur, let's vote to ban anyone with an opinion that "we" don't agree with.

That makes sense.

Very childish.

If you believe in "democracy" go find another forum.

On AR we have ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, NO DEMOCRACY!

It is DICTATORSHIP at its finest - you might not agree with me, but that does not matter, as I am the dictator, and only my decision counts.

Funny how this report of the accident cropped up in the main media.

It was bound to happen - I know, changing a few "facts" to make the story more sellable makes no difference.

In a year from now, someone would read another report from the media about it, which will have absolutely no facts except the name Boddington, and leopard in it.

The people involved in this sad accident have reported here soon after it had happened, and have been kind enough to update you all on what has been going on.

Many of you were kind enough to give your support.

And from some of the posts, I get the impression those posting think the laws and rules in every country are the same as in the US.

Far from it. Other countries have their own laws that govern outfitters and PHs. And I have no doubt those involved in the above accident were operating within the laws in their country.

I'm going to bed shortly.

What is important to me is that I had cubed venison steak, marinated in olive oil and herbs with a touch of vinegar, then smothered with some green and red peppers and diced Vidalia onions and (since I'm lazy) cooked medium-rare on my George Forman grill. I had a little brown gravy from an earlier meal heated it and put it the cube steak, etc., then over some rice, and added to my plate some brussel sprouts that I'd sautee'd and a little salad of mixed greens, cherry tomatoes with bacon bits, dried tomatoes, some sprinked feta cheese and sprayed with a spritz or two of spicy Italian dressing... cracked pepper on everything.. some South African merlot. My girl friend joined me for the dinner while her 15 year-old daughter was at a guitar class and gave me a hug upon leaving. She and I are looking to going to the SCI banquet in Jacksonville on Saturday if other duties permit.

In other words, ya'll fuss. I'm going to thank the good Lord for my blessings.

Good night folks.

Ah yes, thanks for putting things back into perspective. Why not just enjoy this site? Isn't that what it is for?

I think it's more than a little sad that every time (at least it seems this way) Craig B. posts here it is because he is defending himself and/or dispelling some false information. Wouldn't it be nice if he could come on here and participate every now and again without having to go on the defensive? Couldn't we all gain?

Big Grin yuck

God bless you Americans when you get riled!

The image I have of this thread, were it conducted in person in a town hall somewhere in the old west, rather than on the internet would is priceless.
lol

On the topic of the thread, accidents happen in extraordinary circumstances, that it happened to someone else is no reason to pretend that the latter statement is untrue.

The situation as I see it is that a man known and liked to the two parties involved in this incident was severely hurt, the insurance of the parties does not, or will not, cover the injured party's medical costs let alone lost income and one of the parties, who feels pretty awful about having participated in the incident, has set up a fund to help him out.

Those that wish to help also, their reasons for doing so matter not one iota, can do so and those who have problems of own, mental or actual, are in no way obliged to contribute something they can or will not.

End of.

Leave the father of the person, and spurious randoms you have never met before but seemingly engender anger by simple virtue of their existence on this board, out of a discussion that does not involve them in any meaningful way.

Regards,

Amir

The sad part for everyone that likes to hunt, or claims to, is that the statement in bold print above is 100% correct.

I see it on EVERY forum I participate on or visit.

Petty/Jealous/Small Minded people that have some form of hatered toward another person, that for whatever reasons, is able to be living the life they have chosen for themselves.

People all over the Internet that participate on these forums claim to support their fellow hunters, and that for many folks is a flat out lie.

We don't support each other as a group, and make a real diligent effort on any occasion we get, to try and point out each others differences or supposed short comings, more so if the person involved is a writer/media personality/guide/outfitter/PH or even just a more experienced hunter willing to share their knowledge.

The anti's are not going to be the ones that kill hunting, hunters are doing a damn fine job of it on their own. JMDO.

Even the rocks don't last forever.

I like the theory suggested above that working in the hunting business is a dangerous profession, and the worker assumes the risks associated with that profession. The client agrees to pay a price for the hunt, and if an accident happens, that is unfortunate but the price of the hunt was set knowing that there was a risk of an accident. No further payment should be required by the hunter. Period.

Can't we please leave this alone? It's been done already and there is nothing new to add that will help either Brittany or Punki. If you must contribute, please do so to the fund set up to aid in Punki's recovery. Assante sama.
