I would like to hear your experiences in hunting with Ray Millican please.
He is offering a buff hunt in the Masai Steppe area of TZ and I need to check him out. I have mixed reports already.
If you do not wish to post please send PM to
hunters-hq@cowtown.net
Many thanks!

'Hunting Report' has four reports on Millican. Three of them are negative. Very negative. Be careful.

Harry,

Just say NO, and back away slowly without turning your back (never show fear) .

Seriously, only asking a few more questions saved me from putting a deposit on a hunt with Ray that probably never would have happened. Thank goodness I could not get in contact with him before I started to suspect something wasn't quite right. This was supposed to be a buff hunt in the northern part of Mozambique a number of years ago, and thankfully I found another hunt in the meantime. I heard that at least one other hunter put a deposit on that hunt, and that it never took place. Last I heard he was still trying to get his deposit back. Ray also was hunting Zambia, I believe, at that time, and rumor was that there were some unhappy hunters from that operation the last year or two that it was running.

I must point out that this was second hand information on the other hunter, so take it for what it's worth, which is only hearsay. I hate to pass along this type of rumor, but I think you should go into the situation with your eyes open.

I would certainly want many references on the hunt that you are considering, and would check them thoroughly. I am not saying don't go, just that you should be careful. Maybe Ray has straightened things out now?

Good luck,
Jim

Mbogo375... I was one of those hunters screwed by Ray in Zambia in 98! Oh yea, he was thrown out of Moz.. In order to not to go off the deep end, which I do every time I think of Ray and Lionheart Safaris who he was hidding under at the time. I'm still waiting on Half of my trophies, and thats only the tip of the iceberg. If it was not for Mike Heath and other honest and helpful operators, I still would not have any of them.. I WILL KICK HIS ASS IF I EVER AM ABLE TO GET MY HANDS ON HIM. This is not a threat, but a promise. And to think, I have Frontier Adventures to thank for booking me with those clowns... A few years back, at the SCI Convention, my brother and I were dealing with Ray Millican on a sable, leopard hunt in Zambia. It was not too long in the negociations Ray told us that if we wanted a "real good" deal, he could put one together however we would have to go along with a story he would provide us with. I asked if he was proposing something illegal. His reply was slightly but we were not to worry as we were were going to Africa and this was how things are done in Africa. I dropped him like a used condom, got up and left his booth.
Later on, I saw a couple of government representatives from Zambia and I told them what Ray offered me. They seemed very interested and I don't know what happened after that. I would not hunt with him then, and no way in hell would I consider hunting with Ray Millican now.
