SCI is a trade show organizer. All the marketing and political lobbying stuff is just to promote a trade show business. If an outfitter buys the most space or donates the most hunts they move up and get awarded trade show titles. I saw someone who had a corner prime location full booth and bought an additional empty booth at SCI this year. When one expect a trade show promotion business to be something more, only disappointments will occur. But end of day SCI sells hunts, fishing trips, guns, other high end expensive stuff. Mike | |||

The not so funny part is SCI’s uncanny knack of picking bloody crooks as their PROFESSIONAL HUNTER OF THE YEAR. How the hell do they manage it?? If they managed to do something positive for us as hunters nearly as much as they pick these crooks, no one would complain about them! | |||

I`m reading about all these crooked PH`s and Outfitter`s. How can we ordinary hunters avoid them? Is there any list in Secret or official that we can get info from? It`s always a challenge every time I and my fellows hunters are planning a safari, Is this guy or that Outfitter one we can trust. I have mine that I hope not are amongst these crooks. Pay attention and stop thinking so hard, I AIN'T DEFENDING ANYONE!!! I just found it funny that Saeed took a statement I made 180 degrees out of context. I believe Mr. Shores and a few others on here defend SCI, but I personally have not seen anything on AR concerning SCI and its activities that I could or would support/defend, I have little or no use for ELITISTS. There is no secret list that I know of, however, there are a lot of folks who see and hear things. It's always a good idea to checkout an outfitter/PH on forums like AR. Most every one of these questionable guys seem really nice when they are busy pimping for your money. But it's what they do behind the scenes and in the field that would raise the hair on your head. CHC: I do find some value in SCI. However, like most things nothing is all good or all bad. When SCI picks a PH of the year who ,with even a little internet search, has been involved with an awful lot of problems, it impairs their credibility. This is not their first. They do a lot of really stupid things that are very bad for hunting. One ought to start looking around at some of their litigation recently. Litigation against SCI. There is a confidential settlement agreement in November. Check the nature of that. Remember the Reform SCI movement a few years back? I hear that depositions were taken recently. Rudolph is out for blood. He might get it. I don’t defend them. I call it the way I see it. Good, bad or indifferent. | |||

SCI does indeed support hunting related activities; those that are convenient to them from a financial point of view. Africa south of the Sahara is a renown hunting destination which lures hundreds, if not several thousand hunters every year, a good percentage of whom are American and very likely SCI members who may even have booked their hunts at the convention. Can you tell us how many SCI Chapters are registered in this unique hunting venue? From what I know there aren't any, yet you will find chapters in nondescript countries (islands) that offer fuck all in terms of hunting other than the occasional goat, hog or water buffalo. | |||

The only things I know about SCI is that they do seem to be an elitist organization that seems to place too much emphasis on awarding people for animals they have killed based more on their monetary status than on the effort of "Fair Chase" to obtain the kill. Ar actually does a very good job of sorting the wheat the the chaff. Walking the SCI or dsc show everything looks the same. Similar situation with websites. Just ask on AR who they recommend for an area, country, etc and the answers you get will most likely be verified by real dollars spent you real consumers. Mike | |||
