Im sure terry is right about the shot being to high. At that distance you need to shoot at the base of the trunk. Dont know if his second shot was any good but he looked a bit rattled and about fifty yards behind his ph on the followup. If that was me I would have deep sixed the video and moved on to plains game. If his second shot was good then the elephant was his fair and square.

Saw the show and it looked like a typical ph shot elephant to me. The guy totally blew the frontal brain shot and not shure if he hit it with the shoulder shot as it turned. The elephant died upright and that dont happen unless you brain it. They had all the time in the world and if he shot it in the shoulder than he could at least claim the ivory. Its not so dramatic but he looked like he had elephant fever trying to run and reload and almost falling over his shooting sticks. Earlier he commented on how he would be able to get three or four shots in with no problem. Well things change fast when the big boy is looking at you with a fair ammount of resentment at twenty yards. Cant say how many videos I have seen where these bwanas freeze up after the first shot and react too slowly for a second and third. I think they are so suprised when the elephant doesnt fall they cant go to plan B. That ph moved faster than a cat and had that big boy down before the hunter got untangled.

The PH talked to the client about "the closer he is to you, the lower you need to shoot" on a frontal brain shot. They said the client was "7 paces from the elephant when he shot". The elephant was lifting his head to look down at the client. The client shot the elephant right between the eyes. Another frontal brain shot that was too high.

Regards,

Terry
